Five Things Friday #14

It’s Friday!

The weather here is pretty dreary, but it makes me look forward to staying inside and baking/drinking warm cider/whatever else people do in the fall.  I’m still not sure if I am adequately equipped to handle Chicago winters, but we will find out!

In weekly Friday tradition, here are some of the things that I am loving this week:

1. Personalized Alarm Messages

Ok, so I’m sure that I am the last person in the world to figure this out, but I love being able to personalize my messages when my alarm goes off.  They help motivate me to get up when it is still dark outside.  This is my alarm for tomorrow, but last time it was 545 am and it was definitely pitch black when I woke up.  No Bueno.


2. Perfect Bars

This was on my list for last week, but I wasn’t able to post last Friday.  I have tried just about every flavor of these minus the coconut (because I despise coconut) and I love them.  I talked to one of the reps at Expo East a few weeks ago and I’m glad he warned me that he eats one as a meal replacement, otherwise I would eat like 5 a day.  A couple of the flavors have around 200 calories and are more suitable for snacking, but of course the ones I like have around 300 and are definitely filling.  Here is my favorite:


3. Gone Girl

My sister in law recommended this book after we saw a preview for the upcoming movie.  I bought a copy at the airport and read more than half of it on the flight home. I finished it 2 days later and will say that it is definitely worth the read.  It’s been awhile since I’ve found a book that has been able to pull me in and keep me interested, so I’m really glad this recommendation was spot on.


4. Pure Barre

I have only been once so far, but I really enjoyed the workout.  I’m excited to go again in a few weeks when I’m in NC so that I can compare studios and also work on improving my form on some of these subtle exercises.


5. Seasonal Almond Butters

Now that it is fall, I have become inspired to experiment with different flavors of almond butter.  I recently made a pumpkin spice flavor and last night tried my hand at a coconut flavored one.  Both seem to be a hit, so I am trying to think outside the box and add some original flavor combinations to my repertoire.  Suggestions welcome!

  1. Wasn’t the book great! I read it a few years ago and LOVED it. I’m going to try “audible” so I can listen to books on my drive to and from work. First up on the list – The Fault In Our Stars. I hope I don’t start crying while I drive!!
