Five Things Friday #17

It’s Friday! This doesn’t really mean much to me this week since every day was a Friday, but I’m still looking forward to the weekend nonetheless.  I enjoyed some down time this week, but next week I am planning on structuring more productive time to get things done.  Watch out.

In week ending fashion, I am here to share some of my favorite things from this week:

1. Wavy hair

I used to wear my hair curly a lot, but since I haven’t had it cut in many moons, it just ended up looking like a rat’s nest when it would dry. That, and the fact that I couldn’t find my trusted Redken Fresh Curls spray in the stores anywhere. I finally broke down and talked to someone in a salon about why I couldn’t find it and they said they had come out with a new line of curl products that were equally as good. So after getting my hair cut and picking up a bottle of Fashion Waves, I was all set. I usually blow dry part of it, but yesterday I just let it air dry and it wasn’t too shabby.  Time to bring the beach back just in time for fall.

2. Pesto stuffed chicken

Last night I whipped up some pistachio pesto and recreated a recipe for pesto stuffed chicken. It was super quick and super delicious since you know my love of all things basil. Let me just tell you how excited I am to finally have time to make dinner and to eat it at a reasonable hour.

It seems that every other week I have a new book to share, and this week it is The Namesake. It is also a very good movie as I am told, but I don’t like watching things before I read the book. It is about a Bengali couple who move to the United States and have to deal with accommodating to a different way of life and eventually raise a family under the same circumstances. I am about halfway through and it’s definitely keeping me interested.

4. New Bath and Body Works Candles

Don’t get me wrong, I love me some fall scented candles from B&BW, but they have some new scents that I just found and am loving. I have been lighting them all the time because they are not quite as powerful as the other ones and offer a more sophisticated smell.  My two favorites right now are Black Baltic Pearl and Cardamom & Suede.  There are a couple other scents in this line, so if anyone has tried them, let me know how you like them!

5. Nicole by OPI Drying Drops

I discovered drying drops a few years ago as a quick addition to nail polish to aid in the drying process.  I used to use drying drops by OPI until I found a cheaper alternative in the Nicole by OPI brand.  The bottle I used to get was around $14, but the Nicole brand is half that if not cheaper and can be found more easily in drugstores, Target, etc.  I used to always have my nails painted, but then that habit fell to the wayside. With the cooler temperatures, I got excited to break out the fall colors and ended up painting them again.  I love the darker reds and purples of this season. After painting, simply put a drop or two on your nails and they will be dry in no time!

So that’s it for this week. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Question of the day: What are some of your favorite things this week?

Oooh! The Namesake!! That’s my favorite Jhumpa Lahiri book! The other good one by her is her collection of short stories – Interpreter of Maladies. All her other books I thought were “eh” in comparison.

I’m loving roasted squash these days – kabocha squash, delicata squash, butternut squash. You name it, I’ve roasted it. Yum!

I love this new line of candles too! A) they are super pretty, and B) I love the spicy scents! I just picked up a few on Wednesday! Also, I need to try out these drying drops. I despise waiting for my nails to dry!
