Five Things Friday #24

Hello! I am currently on a plane back to VA for the next week.  I am excited to see friends and my mom is also headed over to my sister’s this weekend and I will be able to see my family! I will also be able to get a lot of studying time in since Neil will be in training Mon-Fri during the day.  I need to crack down and get moving a little faster on this NASM exam!

While I am flying high, I want to share with you some of my favorite things this week. Welcome to Five Things Friday!

1. Strong Curves

I have been following Bret Contreras, aka “The Glute Guy,” for over a year or so. I can’t remember why I stumbled upon his site, but in reading about his training specialties and experience, I found myself going back randomly from time to time. I wrote about the hip thrust last year but didn’t put in as much work as I would have liked, and once the weather got warmer I abandoned the gym for running in the wilderness.  What I really like about his method is the amount of research he has put into developing his training programs (and the testimonials don’t hurt either).

I wound up on his site again recently and bought his book, Strong Curves, which I have been working through this week. He really knows his stuff which is evident in his clients and the reviews on Amazon.  I am excited to see what kind of results I get!


2. Perfect Bars

I have talked about these a couple times after discovering them at Expo East, but I couldn’t find them close enough to me in VA. Once I found them in Chicago, I bought as many as I could and can’t seem to stop.  They’re so good! Note: They are sweetened with honey, so if you don’t like the taste of honey as a sweetener these may not be for you.

I saw these nails on Pinterest last year, but stopped painting my nails as much. For Christmas I painted them red and gold and for New Year’s I went with dark gray and gold.  BAM.


4. Other Uses For Eggnog

I love eggnog. Eggnog does not love me. It is a love-hate relationship that leaves me feeling sick and bubbly after drinking any.  I have been trying to find other uses for it so that I am not drinking it straight from the carton and rolling around in discomfort.  I used it in pancakes which were ok, but the winner was using it in my bowl of oatmeal instead of milk.  Sprinkle some cinnamon on it and voila!


5. Pinterest Workouts

I recently read Julie’s recap of her most popular workouts of 2014 and it made me think more about finding workouts on Pinterest.  I will skip over some premade workouts if they are included in a post and I am not immediately going to the gym, but when I am searching for inspiration, Pinterest is a great one stop shop for a variety of ways to get sweaty in the gym (or at home).

I did this treadmill workout today after my glute work from Strong Curves and it was deceptively  harder than I thought. That may have something to do with all the pizza and barely any actual running for some weeks.
