Happy Friday the 13th!

The forecast here in Chicago is wonderful today and I just got back from a 6 mile run along the lake. I am pumped for the weekend since tomorrow will be a sea (river?) of green and I get to teach my class. It’s going to be epic.

To wrap up the work week, I’m sharing some of my favorite things. Make sure to share some of yours in the comments!

1. New Running Shoes

It was about time for me to replace my shoes since I have had them over a year, trained for, and ran a half in them. Whenever I go to get new shoes I always have them do a running analysis on me to see if anything has changed. I still have a very mild overpronation, so no big changes there.

I assumed I would leave with my fourth pair of Brooks, but surprisingly I ended up with a pair of Asics Gel-DS Trainers.  They felt supportive, yet light. When I tried running wearing one of each, the Brooks actually felt much heavier. Since Fleet Feet has a no questions asked return policy, I went with my gut and took home the Asics knowing that I could return them if they didn’t work out.

My run this morning felt great with my new shoes and my times were way faster than they have ever been!  I don’t attribute this to my new shoes, just a change in my workout routine (although maybe they are so light that I can just fly from place to place). I haven’t run outside like this in months, so I am sure that the HIIT crosstraining that I have been doing has something to do with it.  Also note that I think the GPS on my phone may be wacky and I am realistically in more of the 8ish min range than the 7’s. That would  just be absurd. My previous pace was around 9-9:15 min miles, so I’m pretty impressed with my speed today!

2. Jeni’s Pistachio & Honey Ice Cream

On the opposite side of the spectrum I bring you ice cream.  I have talked about Jeni’s before, but I thought I would bring it back again. I picked up a pint of pistachio & honey this week and have been slowly whittling away at it.

3. Whole Foods Belly Rub Juice

I was thirsty for some juice the other day, so I grabbed this one from Whole Foods. It had different ingredients than most of my normal smoothies, so I wanted to try it out. I drank it unreasonably fast.

Aaaand we are back to sweets. This week I was craving a carrot cake cupcake with cream cheese icing and I finally tracked one down. Sadly, the frosting didn’t taste like the typical cream cheese and there were walnuts in it, but of course I ate it all. To be fair, some people put nuts in their carrot cake so I should have been prepared, but I am not a fan of nuts in other foods. By themselves they are fine; I am just a weirdo.

I am still going to go back and sample some of their many other flavors though and make use of this cupcake ATM when I JUST CAN’T WAIT IN LINE.

5. 6 Ways To Work Out On A Budget

Shameless self-promotion. Also, I just used snipping tool to take this shot. I know you’re proud.

Have a great weekend and be safe if you are planning to get into any drunken debauchery!

Questions:

  • Do you like nuts in your desserts?
  • Are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day? What are you doing?
  • Cupcakes or donuts?
  • Are you loyal to one brand of running shoes or do you go with what fits best?

Every time I go to the store for new running shoes I always go in THINKING I’m going to walk out with a different brand, and I always end up with the same thing (Mizuno Waveriders). Maybe if next I go in planning to get Mizunos, I’ll walk out with something else? haha. Also, way to go speed demon!! I definitely missing running a LOT, especially now that the weather is finally getting nicer and everyone is posting running pics!

I think you have a good reason for not running though 🙂 I hope I can run when I get pregnant, but if not I’m sure I will find something else to sweat with!

I want a Sprinkles ATM in my hood, on second thought, maybe I don’t! Thanks for the snipping tool advice, I’ll have to see if my computer comes equipped with it! My iPhone photos just don’t seem that fancy enough for all the effort… xoxo, ganeeban

I know. It’s dangerous business. Luckily it’s about a 20 min walk for me so I won’t be able to get to it all the time.

I have always had Brooks Adrenaline. I’m kind of thinking of switching it up the next time I get running shoes but I’m kind of scare to try something new.

I was too but I just put one of each shoe on and went with the one that felt best. It also helps that I can take it back within the month if it doesn’t work for me. So far so good though…

I need to get my butt to Fleet Feet. Such a responsible runner you are 🙂 hasn’t the Lakefront Path been beautiful? I could run all day every day down that path. I need to make my way to Jenni’s for that ice cream — pistachio is the bomb.

So beautiful. I have been loving it. You could just buy it in Whole Foods too and eat the whole pint. That sounds like a better idea.
