Five Things Friday #37

Hello Friday!

I’m not teaching today and don’t have much on my schedule, so I’m planning on either a) reading b) working on blog things c) making food or d) studying for my personal training exam (hint: it won’t be d). I promise I’ll get it done!

While I am figuring out what to do with my life today, please fill up yours by experiencing some of my favorite things from this week!

1. My Feature In The Chicago RedEye

The RedEye is an offshoot of the Chicago Tribune and they picked up my story as part of their #Addiction2015 campaign. If you have read about my journey before, it won’t be anything new, but you can read it online in case you don’t live in Chicago to pick up a print copy. You may not be able to even if you live in Chicago because I may have grabbed them all myself.

When I went to grab the link to share with you guys, I found this sweet comment waiting for me:

I will never understand being a dick to someone. If anyone else does, please explain it to me. Actually, I do, but that’s a post for another day.

2. Pinterest

I have had a Pinterest account for awhile, but never put a lot of effort into it. I decided this week to convert it to a business account and actually use it for sharing recipes and other related posts. I had boxed Pinterest into a food, fashion, and DIY machine in my mind and didn’t really see the benefit to me and this blog. When I realized that people pin all sorts of things like workouts and blogging business posts, I reconsidered my stance.  It is in it’s infancy and still has a whole board dedicated to fancy nail designs, but check it out!

One of the perks of converting to a business account is the analytics capability. I love looking at blog statistics and if Google Analytics isn’t enough for you, head on over to Pinterest!

3. Jessica’s Chocolate Hazelnut Granola

I discovered this granola thanks to the overwhelming recommendation of the Suz herself. I probably would have found it in my granola search at Whole Foods, but it caught my eye because I had heard the name before. I have only had one other flavor, Cherry & Berry, but so far both of these have been great.

I bought this chocolate one Wednesday night on my amazing walk through the city and demolished more than I intended when I got home. The chocolate chips in this granola make it taste sinfully decadent so I will probably eat it more as a dessert than sprinkling it on my oatmeal, but either way it’s terribly addictive.

Good news: Susie is currently hosting a giveaway of Jessica’s granola on her site. There are 4 days left, so head over to enter! Also you can use the code suzlyfe to get $5 an online order until 4/15.

4. Pinch of Yum Income Reports

I do not have a food blog, but that doesn’t mean I can’t turn this blog into more of a business. I can’t even remember how I stumbled across the Pinch of Yum site, but I have been obsessed with these income reports for a few days now. I’m always fascinated by the business side of blogging and content marketing and I love the transparency of Bjork’s monthly reports. Hey, Lindsay’s food isn’t bad either!

5. Instagram Accounts Of Children

I didn’t know what to title this one (can you tell?). Also, reading over it again makes me sound like a pedophile. Oh well.

I wanted to share two Instagram accounts with you: one that I have only recently started to follow and one that I have for months. The first is 2sisters_angie and it stars Mayhem, an incredibly talented girl who makes all kinds of ridiculous dresses using only paper. I learned about this account as it was starting up and now there are 472 THOUSAND followers. She even has her own blog now and I can’t wait to see what is in store for this 5 year old if she is already this amazing.

IMG_1896.PNGThe second is assholeparents and it makes me crack up every time. Kids are ridiculous.

assholeparentThat’s all I’ve got this week folks! Share some of your favorites with me in the comments!

I think the problem with that dooooosh tool is that someone never gave him/her any granola or love when they were kids. But at least they were enough of a dbag that you can just brush it off, or at least I hope. Or just let me know, and I will hunt them down and beat the ever loving BALLS out of them 😀

People are dicks because they feel shitty about themselves and want to bring other people down so they feel a little better. It’s the age-old school yard bully mentality. Their cruelty reveals more about them, than us. Another thing I keep in mind is the saying, “the hurt, hurt.” People who are reduced to hurting others have often been hurt themselves. So, there are all the mature things to think about when people are dicks. If that doesn’t work, light a bag of poo on fire and stick it on their doorstep.

It’s taken me awhile to learn that, but with each dick comment it gets easier to remember. You’re right, if all else fails, poop it is.

Man, people really are dicks sometimes. I really just dont understand it! I always try to remind myself that 99% of the time, when people are rude or obnoxious or just plain assholes, it’s usually more about THEIR problems than your problems. Clearly they have some sh*t they need to fix in their lives, and for some reason they think it’ll help to take their frustrations out on others. If I meet these people in person, I always give them a nice big smile as if to say “You can be a dick all you want, but you’re not going to bring me down with you. Asshole.” 😀
I’m such a charmer, I know ;-P Keep your chin up! If T-Swift taught us anything – Haters gonna hate (hate hate hate hate).

      I know that’s right!

I seriously think people do that for absolutely no reason. They do it, walk away, and don’t care that it affects the person on the receiving end for much longer. WOOF. I hate people sometimes haha but then I remember there are many more wonderful people out there. You are so strong and courageous for putting that article out there – I’m SO PROUD of you!

Don’t even get me started on Pinterest. That’s a whole beast that IHABL is NOT ready to conquer haha.

Thanks lady! Yeah, I am trying to ease into Pinterest so I don’t lose my mind.

Regarding the dick comment. I don’t understand it either, and I have to wonder how they treat their friends/family/lovers. If one of them suffered from addiction or another mental illness, would they have the same lack compassion? People like that scare the crap out of me. Isn’t a lacok of compassion for others a trait of sociopaths?

No idea, but I try and remember that whatever it is it’s about them and not me. Gets easier with practice!
