Reunions and a Wedding

I arrived back in Chicago last night to a rainy, albeit warm, evening. I finished off my trip to to VA enjoying some time with my mom and sister and her dogs. I also read a lot on my trip so I’m thinking more abstractly and figure let’s just recap this trip of reunions and a wedding backwards from Sunday to Friday.

I spent lots of love time with Pinky, my sister’s dog.

We either have a special bond or she’s trying to suffocate me.  I also noticed that I failed to take pictures of my family…whoops.

My sister made us a sumac-roasted sweet potato and farro salad w/ pickled onions and hazelnuts. She had gotten the recipe in her Blue Apron shipment and now continues to make it because it is so good.  Sidenote: by clicking here you can receive your first two Blue Apron meals free when signing up!

Before we went to my sister’s, Neil and I grabbed breakfast at a local cafe. I got an egg and cheese sandwich which makes a pretty boring picture.

We woke up to an alcohol awareness trailer right outside our hotel window. I think this may have been a little overkill.

Saturday night we went to a gorgeous wedding in Chantilly.  We had an amazing time dancing and enjoying the company of family and friends that we don’t get to see as often since we moved.  This is the sweetheart table where the bride and groom sat.

Obligatory food shot.

Purple haze infused selfies.

Neil’s parents bought me this sari when they went to India last year (the trip we missed). I was finally able to wear it, but had to show up in yoga pants since I don’t know how to dress myself. Neil’s mom helped me put on clothes like a big girl.

Before the wedding I spent some time with my sister and we wandered around the mall. She stopped for an iced coffee and I stopped to eat 3/4 of this bag because we were at Nordstrom Cafe and they made me feel fancy.

Friday night Neil and I got to have pizza with Carly. REUNITED ONCE AGAIN. If you haven’t been reading long, Carly blew up my posts last year when I was training for my first half marathon. She is the first person I actually ran with and thanks to that I abhor all treadmill running.

I stopped at The Fresh Market for some almond pillow cookies that my friend Tayler recommended to me. I wish I had had more time since I love this horrendously overpriced store, but I bought the last two cookies and bounced.

The second thing I did after landing was spend time with Tayler and her precious babies. Here we are hiding under the playground equipment because that’s what cool kids do.

She did not want to be in my picture. TOO BAD.

I also learned about balance bikes. These are bikes with no pedals and they are supposed to help kids learn to ride an actual bike faster than ones with training wheels. I don’t know anything about children these days.

Our first stop after landing was to go to our favorite pho place and gorge ourselves with meat and noodles.

We had a really good time and the weather was incredible while we were there. It actually ended up being too hot for me at some points and I wish I had brought different clothes. I had checked the forecast, but either I didn’t pay attention or I did and I just don’t know what those numbers feel like anymore since spending a winter in Chicago.

I hope you all had a great weekend. Tell me about it!

  • What did you do this weekend?
  • What’s something you’re doing this week?
  • What are you doing right now??

  1. I know exactly what you mean–that we have lost any/all ability to know how to pack for weather since living here. I’m so glad that you had so much fun! And agin, I want a sari. It is kind of a bucket list item for me. No clue what I would do with it, but you know I would wear it. Also, if they have a dog named Pinky, they seriously need a The Brain to go along with. Just saying.

    1. I want to make a trip up to Devon Street at some point to see about investing in some of my own. I may get something besides a sari so that I can actually dress myself when I need to.

  2. The one Indian wedding I attended was the best wedding EVER. Time of my life. I also love Pho. SO yum. Have you ever seen that Modern Family episode where Mitchell and Cameron take their baby to the doctor and she’s Asian, and they talk about pho? SO FUNNY. Anyway, looks like you had so much fun this weekend!

    1. Haha yes. That show is amazing.

I need to do a better recap of our wedding because I just kind of kept it on the dl and was like yeah we got married and here are some lame pictures from my old phone. Maybe at anniversary time…

    1. Ha and I thought your weekend was busy.

Technically they should be easy because they are just a super long piece of fabric, but I give up. They have prefolded ones you can just put on, but I always wear my MILs so they are legit ones from India. I am thinking about getting some other ones besides saris so that I can actually dress myself…

    1. Haha I know. She’s so precious.

Thank you! I love actually being allowed to wear sparkles and not have them be gaudy haha
