It’s Friday! What are you doing this weekend?
I am doing some relaxing this weekend after a busier than normal week so there’s nothing on the calendar and my books and couch are calling my name. I also plan to put in some hours working on the book, but besides that it’s a low-key weekend. That also means there will probably be a lot of food involved again.
Speaking of food, 4/5 of this week’s Five Things Friday is comprised of food. I don’t hate it.
1. Pumpkin O’s from Trader Joe’s
I first saw these on Susie’s blog and was intrigued. Then I saw them again and was won over (it doesn’t take much). I grabbed them on my last trip to TJ’s and have to say they are pretty delicious. My only problem is that I’ve been having them frequently with regular milk because I haven’t had time to make cashew milk (read:lazy), so my mouth has been happy but my stomach doth protest too much.
They have a similar consistency to Apple Jacks, but taste healthier and more like delicious pumpkin.
2. Peas Please by Peeled Snacks
As you may have seen on Instagram, Peeled Snacks sent me some samples of their new dried vegetable line. Neil and I already really enjoy their line of dried fruits, so I was intrigued by their foray into the vegetable space. There are three flavors: sea salt, garden herb, and southwest spice. So far I have only demolished the sea salt bag, but there’s always the weekend.
I like these because they are a great light snack that isn’t in the sweet sphere. Those are usually the types of snacks that I have lying around and after awhile it gets to be a bit much and I need to get back to my veggies. There’s also 5 g of protein in each serving!
3. Pumpkin Spice Almond Butter
Two pumpkin-flavored foods in one post? Yes, it’s basic. Yes, it’s delicious. Once the temperatures dropped, I whipped out the pumpkin spice for my homemade almond butter. It will probably be my staple until the weather warms up again. I still have yet to grab my one pumpkin spice latte of the season at Starbucks, but I’m sure it will be soon. I have to try it since they changed the formulation, and I’m hoping that it doesn’t taste like potpourri anymore.
4. Fresh Turmeric
I mix up my smoothies sometimes and one of my recipes involves fresh ginger and turmeric powder. I went to restock my ginger supply today and saw fresh turmeric there as well (on right), so I grabbed some. Yesterday’s smoothie involved chia, ALL THE GREENS, fresh lemon juice, ginger root, and turmeric root. GIVE ME ALL THE HEALTH.
5. Skitch by Evernote
You may remember that I lived under a rock for many years and didn’t know anything about snipping tool. I discovered it and my life was changed forever. Lately I have been using an even better tool called Skitch (please don’t tell me I’m super late to the party on this one too).
Skitch does the same thing as snipping tool, but once you capture your image, you are able to overlay graphics such as text, arrows, circles, and other magical things. This makes it a great tool for tutorial posts as you are able to screenshot an image and then highlight the portion you are talking about. I used it in my post about cloaking affiliate links if you want to see it in action.
