Five Things Friday #88
Ah, the Friday before a long weekend.
Well, it’s technically a long weekend for Memorial Day, but my schedule won’t be too different from a normal weekend. I am teaching three classes at Sweat on Sunday and then since we are open Monday morning, I’ll teach my regularly scheduled 8:30 am class. If anyone wants to come work out before enjoying the weather, let me know!
Aside from that, no plans on the horizon which is GREAT. They also just turned the air conditioning on in our building, so I can bundle up and sleep to my heart’s content (which will probably be around 6:30 am ha).
To kick off the weekend, let’s check out some of my favorites from the week!
1. Avocado Toast
Wednesday was my first time trying avocado toast. WHY DIDN’T ANYONE MAKE ME EAT IT SOONER?
I stopped at Cafe Integral, a cute cafe by my place that is also attached to an awesome hotel, The Freehand. I wanted to grab something small because I was hungry, but on my way to a lunch event, so I tried out their avocado toast with shaved radishes, pickled shallots, sunflower sprouts, and I added an egg.
This was so. good. I think I may have a new obsession to make at home.
2. Lululemon All Tied Up Tank
Yes, it’s another Lulu purchase. I actually got this at the same time I got the Wunder Unders during TREAT YOSELF day, but didn’t have a chance to wear it until last weekend.
I love the cut of the shirt and the bottom actually comes untied, so you can tie it or just leave it open if you want to wear it around in the summer. It’s is super flattering and I want to wear it all the time.
3. Siggi’s Dairy Lunch Event
I had the opportunity to attend a lunch event (same one from avocado toast above) on behalf of Siggi’s Dairy, the AWESOME skyr yogurt that Neil loves so much. I love it as well, but, you know — dairy.
The event was a collection of RD’s and healthy living influencers and was held at the Chopping Block in Merchandise Mart. Sidenote: this space is BEAUTIFUL. There was so much natural light and space. I’m going to look into some of their cooking classes to try out in the future since I loved it so much.
I can’t say enough about this event. We were split into 4 groups and each one prepared a part of our lunch meal that we then came together to eat “family-style.” Our group was in charge of the roasted vegetables which you can see below.
My group of four had some of the most awesome Chicago bloggers and Instagramers and I was happy to FINALLY be able to meet them in person:
Of course I have no pictures of us because we were all obsessed with getting the perfect shot. #bloglife
Our lunch included:
- pan-seared salmon with lemon and chive infused yogurt and fresh berries
- roasted root vegetables w/ tarragon yogurt sauce
- sweet potato mash
- warm wild mushroom salad
Each component used Siggi’s yogurt in some way and even though my stomach was like “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME??,” I thoroughly enjoyed every bite and even took some leftovers home.
This was seriously one of the best events I’ve been to in awhile and Siggi’s is such an amazing brand. I had the opportunity to meet Siggi himself last year at Blogfest in LA and this year he was just as awesome as I remember.
My sister Jackie got this garden in a can for me for Christmas since we all know I am OBSESSED with basil. I didn’t do anything with it until now because apparently winter decided to last until the end of May this year, but I broke it out this week and have my fingers crossed that it will start to grow.
I usually just buy a fresh plant every year, but with all my basil seed papers and this nifty can, I’m going to try and be optimistic. Wish me luck!
For every picture that you share on Instagram or Facebook of your can, the company will donate one to an elementary school. Nice work, guys, nice work.
5. Fruit Leather
I started making this for Neil and don’t eat it that often, but whatever magic I did to it this last round made it really delicious! Usually, I just throw random fruits together and hope for the best and this time was no different. I blended:
- 2 honeycrisp apples
- juice of half a lemon
- frozen blueberries
- fresh pineapple cubes
It’s fruity but tart at the same time and the pineapple really comes through. Also, I don’t know what I did, but I think the mixture had some air in it after blending and was a little frothy when I spread it out, which seemed to result in some type of fruit-cracker.
Some pieces are pliable, but some are just like crackers when you eat them. Definitely still delicious. If anyone knows why this happened (not that I’m complaining), let me know!
Also, if you’re looking to get into the dehydrator game, I bought this one from Amazon and it’s LEGIT (affiliate link).
That’s all I’ve got for this week! I hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend and if your’s is just the regular 2 days, I feel you. 🙂
