Weekend Workouts and Weather
First of all, so much love goes out to Orlando after this weekend. I’m not sure exactly what to say or what to do, as it seems like words are thin and weightless after such an event. For everyone’s sake today, let’s be about the love.
This weekend’s weather was amazing. Saturday was the hottest day so far in Chicago and temperatures reached over 90 degrees. Even with no rain, Sunday dropped way down to the high 60s, which was also a great time to spend outside.
Saturday I spent a leisurely morning at home working on a new almond butter recipe that I will share with you guys this week. It’s a keeper.
I drank my tea, lounged around, and then headed to Sweat for a going away/birthday workout for one of our trainers. She is definitely a Crossfit lover, so the workout was structured more towards that than the normal workouts we do, and man it was a tough one. We had sprints, rows, wall balls, box jumps, kettlebell swings, cleans, deadlifts, push presses….well, you get the picture.
It was amazing, my face was red by the end, and I gave myself a battle wound by scraping up my leg with my nails on the cleans. #gohard 🙂
Sweat is associating with a local sports injury and performance clinic called Trifactive, so a couple of us headed over there in the afternoon for a two hour informational session on the business and ways that we can help our clients have better breathing, form, and an overall workout experience.
Before heading over there, I had an hour to kill, so I headed to the beach (first picture) to lay out in the 90 degree heat. I also wore my bathing suit to work out in because I am lazy and wanted to carry as little as possible.
The session was incredibly helpful and the two hours flew by. We were all able to ask owner Dr. Jared questions about proper form, how to cue clients in ways that they may understand, and even took advantage of his expertise in assessing some of our own movements.
I feel like I may even need to write a longer post about Trifactive in general, since they offer so many helpful services and classes, including a 45 min foam rolling class — I REALLY need this as I’m terrible at stretching or doing anything lower impact to guarantee a speedy workout recovery.
I also plan to head there for a 60 minute deep tissue sports massage — my first one EVER — and I’ll be sure to report back to you on that.
After the workshop, I headed home, took a well needed shower, and relaxed for the rest of the night.
Sunday I had to teach at Sweat, so I headed up there for my 9:30 am class. I ended up staying and taking the next class with Matt because we made a deal that if he came and took a Sweat class, I would go climbing with him at some point. One of us will always be the better one in either of those workouts.
Afterwards, Neil met us and we all took a trip to Spoken Cafe since I am obsessed and really wanted one of their sandwiches. I tried out their “Not Your Mama’s Grilled Cheese,” which comes with your choice of homemade nut butter, jam, and cheese, as well as caramelized onions. I know it sounds weird, but it honestly wasn’t half bad.
Mine had bourbon pecan butter, cherry jam, and provolone cheese. MMM.
I also got another sandwich for later to have for dinner. Ha.
Neil and I took the train home, stopped for coffee, and grabbed these two tiny lemon poppyseed donuts from Glazed and Infused on the walk home. I need a little sugar, right?
When we got home we spent a good amount of time discussing whether to cancel/postpone our trip to Mexico later this week. The forecast for every day that we will be there is cloudy and rainy and we really didn’t want to waste money on a trip that we weren’t going to be able to enjoy to the fullest.
Ultimately we decided to go, but feel free to weigh in with your thoughts. We are headed to Isla Mujeres, an island off the coast of Cancun that is reached by ferry. If anyone has been there or even to Cancun during this time of the year and can tell me that “clouds and rain” in the forecast just means passing tropical showers, please do!!
I finally got to take a weekend nap on the couch again and then set to work on this post and writing out workouts for the rest of the week so I am ahead before we leave. My role with Benefitness starts this week, so I have a lot more classes on my plate and will definitely be working more out in the world and at coffee shops during the day.
