Five Things Friday #123

Welcome to Friday!

This weekend is another busy one, but I’m still hoping to squeeze in a nap at some point. Tomorrow I am going to another weekend workout, which will become a regular thing since I am going to be starting a 4-week fitness challenge on Monday. I’ll share more details with you next week and likely after the challenge is over, but it should be fun!

Saturday night we have dinner plans with some friends and then Sunday is the Superbowl. I don’t really have any vested interest in who wins, but I’ll be tuning in for the commercials and I’m super excited for what we are getting to eat along with it. 1. Kitchfix

Kitchfix is a Chicago company that prepares chef-cooked meals for pickup or delivery. All the meals are dairy, grain, soy, and corn-free and a lot of them fall under the Whole30 umbrella if that’s something you’re doing or looking to do in the future.

After attending a small event last week, I used the code they provided to get $30 off my order. I stocked up on all kinds of meals and it’s been so nice to not have to think about where lunch or dinner is coming from. They have breakfast foods as well, but I’m fine making those at home.

If you’re in Chicago, you can use the code FAB30 for the same $30 your order. You can be a new or a current client and there’s no expiration date (but you can only use it once). I had these almond crusted chicken strips the other day and they were BANGIN.


2. Eat Healthy Designs Valentines

You guys. I have talked about how much I love Eat Healthy Designs before and own more than my fair share of their punny tanks. I recently became an ambassador for them and they sent me their latest Valentines Day cards in the mail.

In addition to these cards that also come with envelopes, they have a ton that you can print off and cut yourself to give to friends or loved ones. 3. Blueberries

Lately Whole Foods has been having sales on blueberries and you’d better believe I’ve been stocking up. I love mixing them in yogurt, but when I ran out of yogurt I just ate them straight out of this bowl and I forgot how delicious they are by themselves.


4. New Glasses

I first got reading glasses probably 10+ years ago after I went on an epic Lord of the Rings 8 hour reading bender. After that I was never able to read for as long without getting a headache. They were barely anything in terms of prescription and lately when I tried to read for long periods of time I would get those same headaches and when I’d blink and look up everything would be super blurry.

I tried the old glasses I had and they didn’t help at all, but thankfully one of my training clients is an optometrist. I went to see her a couple weeks ago and she confirmed that I was farsighted and needed a slightly stronger prescription. My glasses finally came last Friday and I’ve been wearing them when I’m reading, on my phone, and on the computer. They are the best and so far they’re helping a lot!

5. Kefir

I’d seen kefir (a cultured milk product) in the stores forever, but never bought it because I try to stay away from products that are similar to straight up milk (87% of the time). I tried a kefir smoothie at an event I went to a couple months ago and it was magical. I also found out that it is 99% lactose free, which makes it suitable for those people who may be sensitive to lactose (but not allergic).

There is a Lifeway kefir store near one of the places I work and I was finally able to get in this week to try some more out. They had tons of smoothies to choose from, but I opted for some frozen kefir because I’m crazy and it’s winter. It was in the 30s though, so really not too terrible for Chicago.

    I haven’t tried keifer but I have been wanting to especially since I’m lactose intolerant. Have a great weekend! I’ve been procrastinating finishing my research paper so that will be my weekend jam.

    I’ve never had Kefir, but I am intrigued! Kefir and flax milk seem to be “trendy” now and I am interested in trying them out. I had no idea that Kefir was 99% lactose free either! This weekend, I am most excited about my plans to eat wasabi tuna taco and chips + queso til they have to roll me out of the restaurant. Have a great weekend!

    Oh wow Kitchfix sounds amazing! I would love something like that on busy weeknights when I just throw some eggs in a pan instead and call that dinner. And never tried Kefir, does it taste a little like yogurt?

    Kefir is the BEST! Lifeway has my favorite kind of kefir. And I think you look super cute in your new glasses. Those valentines from Eat Healthy Designs are so cute too; I hope you can send them to some really sweet friends.

    this weekend? Saturday – chill, cleaning, laundry. Sunday – food prep and super bowl party! Oh, and prepping for the school semeter to start on Monday! Eek!
