Five Things Friday #141 - Erin's Inside Job

Five Things Friday #141

Welcome to Friday!

I was so confused all week. Not in that I thought it was a day earlier or a day later, but when I tried to think of what day it was, I was more like “what is a day?” It took me a second to come back from existing in no man’s land and figure out where I was in the course of the week. I think I need a weekend.

I’ve got some plans to check out a new location of my favorite donut shop in Chicago — Do-Rite Donuts — tomorrow (right after a workout ha), and then Neil and I have to hunker down and figure out this dance we are performing at his cousin’s wedding next week. Nothing like procrastination. We’ll be gone Wednesday through Sunday and I will be wearing a myriad of sparkles and colors, so make sure to follow me on Instagram if you want some behind the scenes Indian adventures. 🙂

Here’s some of my favorites to kick off the weekend!

1. Sips by

I was contacted by Sips by last month to see if I wanted to try out their monthly tea subscription box. I hesitated only because a) I’m not a huge subscription box person and b) I’m SUPER picky about my tea. I only like black or strong tea — none of these herbal, fruity flavored nonsense teas (if you like them let me know I have a ton to get rid of 🙂 ).

I told them about my concerns, but was told that each box is personalized based on your answers to a questionnaire. I decided to give it a shot and I’ve actually been a little obsessed with it this week. You get four different types of tea and detailed instructions/information about each one. If you really like one and want to order more, there is even a discount code to use when doing so.

If you want to try it out yourself, you can use the code FORERIN for 50% off your first month!

2. Peonies

Confession — I love lots of flowers, but usually have no idea what they are called. My favorite flowers have been giant Gerber daisies for many years, but this week I stumbled across these peonies at a farmer’s market and I think they may outrank my beloved daisies. I’m not a huge fan of pink, but the white ones are gorgeous and I want them all the time now.

3. New desk arrangement

If you watched my Instagram stories over the weekend, you know that Neil went on a wild furniture moving spree that started at 8:30 pm on Saturday and didn’t finish for another three hours. Previously, our desks were side by side, but we moved mine closer to the window so now the arrangement goes Neil’s desk — TV — Erin’s desk. I like it because I have a lot of natural light coming in and I’m in a little corner nook which is my favorite thing of all.

In other news, does anyone need a nice IKEA dining room table and chairs?

4. Facebook Handshake Tool

This really isn’t a favorite this week, but I don’t know how else to tell you about it. In fact, it’s a pretty big annoyance to me at the moment.

Facebook recently introduced their branded content tool, which only applies to you if you share sponsored posts on your Facebook page. If you fall into that camp, your posts will be denied if you use a #ad or #sponsored hashtag without also selecting the handshake tool when posting.

This is fine with me, however I use Coschedule to schedule out all my social messages and this needs to be done in FB itself (unless someone has figured this out, in which case please tell me). It’s an added step that uses time well spent somewhere else.

In order to begin using the handshake tool, you have to apply using this link. Once you have been approved, you will have the option to choose the handshake (pictured below) when posting to your page. An extra field will open up where you can then tag the brand you are working with.

This in turn results in a post that tells readers who you are working with and that it is a paid post.

5. Straw Propeller

This was on a Five Things Friday many moons ago, but I decided to bring it back because I found one yesterday and forgot how amazing it is. Straw Propeller is a brand of gourmet oatmeal with tons of flavors that are DELICIOUS. I mixed some of my homemade chocolate macadamia nut butter in this yesterday and it was incredible.

You can get it on Amazon, but the only way to get a variety pack is to buy it through their website.

That’s it for this week — let me know some of the things you’re loving in the comments!

  1. Erin, I saw your instagram story trying on Indian attire. I have a wedding in Delhi this year and have to wear a kurta / anarkali / lehnga for one event and then a lehnga or sari for the other. Do you have any recommendations on where to purchase (for a reasonable price!)? I’m in Chicago as well if you bought yours here.

    1. Hi Katie!

The best place to look here in Chicago would be on Devon Street, but I didn’t have much luck when I went there. I felt like things were overpriced and I didn’t find anything spectacular. My lengha I had on was from my reception and made in India and when I go to Indian events I usually just borrow clothes from inlaws. If your wedding is in Delhi, I would honestly advise that (if you have time) you get something there because it will be better quality and much cheaper. Sorry I can’t be of more help!

  2. Also you can’t edit a post scheduled via CoSchedule (or pushed via IG) to add the Handshake took and it’s so irritating. I got flagged twice over Ragnar because I forgot to delete and repost (Grrrrr!). While I think it’s good in theory, the actual application is a pain in my butt.

I’ve also been loving peonies! Sadly, they’re insanely expensive here, so after next week, no more for me until next year. *sniffle*

  3. Along the desk front, I just got a new standup desk for work and am in LOVE with it! My co-workers probably think I’m crazy with the constant up and down (it’s pretty noisy) but I like to move around and it’s also fun to play with!
