Since I decided to switch to more periodic life updates over weekly ones, I figured the beginning of the month was a good time to recap what’s been happening around these parts.
The weather is finally warming up and I’ve retired my jacket for the season (fingers crossed).
Here’s a recap of the past few weeks. There wasn’t much travel this month and the only thing we have coming up in June is a family wedding, so the weekends should be pretty relaxed. The only place I went was Salt Lake City for the Everything Food Conference which was what prompted the change in format in the first place. I recapped it here if you’re interested in why!
Life has been going well.
I’ve written about feeling overwhelmed and overworked, and thankfully things are calming down. I recently wrapped up a 3-month corporate fitness challenge that I was leading which involved a lot of work and was one of the things contributing to the approach of burnout. At least I got this view for part of it. 🙂
I went to a couple Chicago events, including a “foodie meetup” at Yuzu Chicago. The event was incredibly well put together and there was so much food I didn’t know what to do with myself. Plus I got to hang out with a lot of my Instagram pals that I don’t see on a regular basis.
I celebrated seven years in recovery on May 20th.
This past weekend I got to spend eight hours with this nugget — my friend’s dog Otis. We went to the dog park, I bought him some jerky, and we played for most of the afternoon. It was a magical day.
Hopefully you’ll see more of him around since I may just steal him soon.
All of my workouts except one have been at the gym I usually train at — BTY Training Lab. I noticed when I was doing exclusively high-intensity workouts that I wasn’t making a ton of progress. I felt stagnant and plateaued.
I started incorporating Crossfit into my routine a few months ago, and after the fitness challenge I did, I decided to stick with it. My strength has gone up a great deal and I’ve gone from 0 pull ups to 10 lb weighted ones!
The one I didn’t do at BTY was at Studio Three on Memorial Day. It’s a combo of rowing, treadmills, and floor work and it felt good to know I’ve still got it in the high-intensity space.
I make sure to listen to my body and when I’m really not feeling it or I feel worn out/injury-prone, I take a break. Most times I work out about four-five times a week.
I had some new photos taken for the blog by my friend Sam. I love the way her photos turn out. If you’re in Chicago, definitely check her out!
As a side note, I was thinking about writing a post about working with a photographer since I’ve worked with several and I’ve learned something every time. Would that be of any use to you guys?
I started planning my first wellness workshop! The first one is planned for Thurs, 6/29 from 6:30 pm – 8 pm at Ascend in River North. For more info and the link to sign up, check here!
I will also have some exciting news to share with you at the next life update about the state of the blog, so make sure to stay tuned!
I hope you all had a great weekend and your life lately is going well. Let me know about it in the comments! I promise I read them all even though I’ve been struggling to respond to them all lately. Have a wonderful day!
