Life Lately: May 2017

Since I decided to switch to more periodic life updates over weekly ones, I figured the beginning of the month was a good time to recap what’s been happening around these parts.

The weather is finally warming up and I’ve retired my jacket for the season (fingers crossed).

Here’s a recap of the past few weeks. There wasn’t much travel this month and the only thing we have coming up in June is a family wedding, so the weekends should be pretty relaxed. The only place I went was Salt Lake City for the Everything Food Conference which was what prompted the change in format in the first place. I recapped it here if you’re interested in why!

Life has been going well.

I’ve written about feeling overwhelmed and overworked, and thankfully things are calming down. I recently wrapped up a 3-month corporate fitness challenge that I was leading which involved a lot of work and was one of the things contributing to the approach of burnout. At least I got this view for part of it. 🙂

I went to a couple Chicago events, including a “foodie meetup” at Yuzu Chicago. The event was incredibly well put together and there was so much food I didn’t know what to do with myself. Plus I got to hang out with a lot of my Instagram pals that I don’t see on a regular basis.

Another event was held at the new rooftop opening at the Conrad Hotel. Again, lots of catching up with friends I don’t see on the regular including these two gems — Uyen and May.

I celebrated seven years in recovery on May 20th.

This past weekend I got to spend eight hours with this nugget — my friend’s dog Otis. We went to the dog park, I bought him some jerky, and we played for most of the afternoon. It was a magical day.

Hopefully you’ll see more of him around since I may just steal him soon.

All of my workouts except one have been at the gym I usually train at — BTY Training Lab. I noticed when I was doing exclusively high-intensity workouts that I wasn’t making a ton of progress. I felt stagnant and plateaued.

I started incorporating Crossfit into my routine a few months ago, and after the fitness challenge I did, I decided to stick with it. My strength has gone up a great deal and I’ve gone from 0 pull ups to 10 lb weighted ones!

The one I didn’t do at BTY was at Studio Three on Memorial Day. It’s a combo of rowing, treadmills, and floor work and it felt good to know I’ve still got it in the high-intensity space.

I make sure to listen to my body and when I’m really not feeling it or I feel worn out/injury-prone, I take a break. Most times I work out about four-five times a week.

I had some new photos taken for the blog by my friend Sam. I love the way her photos turn out. If you’re in Chicago, definitely check her out!

As a side note, I was thinking about writing a post about working with a photographer since I’ve worked with several and I’ve learned something every time. Would that be of any use to you guys?

I started planning my first wellness workshop! The first one is planned for Thurs, 6/29 from 6:30 pm – 8 pm at Ascend in River North. For more info and the link to sign up, check here!

I will also have some exciting news to share with you at the next life update about the state of the blog, so make sure to stay tuned!

I hope you all had a great weekend and your life lately is going well. Let me know about it in the comments! I promise I read them all even though I’ve been struggling to respond to them all lately. Have a wonderful day!

Woah 10lb weighted pulls ups. That is awesome. I found a new gym to focus on my weightlifting again and maybe I will get the strength to do pull ups again soon. Looks like life is going well. Happy Monday.

Oh man, I wish I was in the Chicago area to attend your wellness workshop! Maybe you’ll consider a DC one soon?! It was a celebratory month and so glad to hear of all the great things….and weighted pull-ups?? You’re amazing.

Thankful that life has calmed down for you a lot since your last post about being overwhelmed. Also, I was pretty convinced after watching you and Neil with Otis that you would make good dog parents. Otis just loved you both; and I love how much entertainment he gave you and Neil.

I’m excited about your exciting news! Exciting news is always fun.

I’d absolutely be interested in learning more about hiring a photographer! I know I should get more photos taken for the blog, but I haven’t. No good reason. Just, haven’t.

It’s great to read a decent life update from you! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to read about your experiences working with a pro photographer! Especially if you’ve done any active/fitness shoots with anyone. I’m dying to get pro photos taken and once school calms down and I can REALLY focus on my blog, I will. I also can’t wait to hear about your blog updates and how things are going with your book! Lots of exciting things coming up for you it seems! 🙂
