Five Things Friday #161

Oof. Let me tell you — part of this week was madness, but the good news is that as you read this we are on our way to NYC for the weekend. Woot!

Yesterday was one of those days where I was super proud of my ability to maximize my time efficiency, but that meant that there was absolutely no down time until later in the evening. It was straight from one thing to another and I even forgot to schedule in time to eat. Who am I?? Tuesday my car was towed and involved a lot of cold rain walking and back and forth trips to even retrieve it which was less than desirable, but I got it back!

To kick off the weekend, here are some of my favorites from this week!

1. Sweet Potato Noodles

I’ve had sweet potatoes sitting on my counter for around a month — so long that they’re starting to sprout. I don’t know what it was, but I was not in the mood to make them. I love sweet potatoes, so I was confused as to why I wasn’t wanting to throw one in the microwave (super lazy) and eat it nice and warm and mushy.

Suddenly I remembered that I had a big sweet potato noodle phase a couple months ago and that actually sounded delicious to me. I spiralized the potatoes and now I’ve been eating them sauteed with some turkey for either lunch or dinner and I LOVE THEM AGAIN.

2. Kodiak Cakes Pancake in a Cup

I went to an event hosted by Kodiak Cakes earlier in the week and they sent us home with some of these pancakes in a cup. Now I’ve had all kinds of single-serve microwave things like cookies, oatmeal, and brownies, but I had never had a pancake that way.

All you do is add water and heat it for 60 seconds and voila — pancake in a cup. They’ve made for great snacks and would be great for travel as well!

3. IT Cosmetics Universal Brow Pencil

My friend recommended this brow pencil to me a couple weeks ago and I just got around to buying it. It only comes in one color and supposedly works for every brow color. It’s really natural and I like that it’s only one pencil and I don’t have to make room for a whole palette of colors or other kinds of creams or things.

I have been getting my eyebrows tinted once a month (which should actually be like every 3 weeks), which costs me around $40. This pencil was only $24 (there’s a travel size for $12) and I think it will last me much longer, so I’m going to stick with this for the time being.

4. Old Navy French-Terry Lounge Joggers

I bought these in VA when I was visiting family because I needed a new pair of lounge pants. They are incredibly soft and I like that they are fitted around the ankles and have pockets, which none of my other pants did.

Like I said, they’re really soft, but I don’t foresee them lasting for a long time. After wearing them a couple times, they stretched pretty easily around the knees and are a little thinner than I’d like, making me think that after a few washings they may not be as reliable, but for now I’m super obsessed with them.

5. Daily Harvest Smoothies

I had seen Daily Harvest around the internet for awhile and always liked the idea of ready-to-go smoothies, but hadn’t had the chance to try them out yet. I was given the opportunity to try out some flavors, and let me tell you — these are legit.

The concept is simple — simply add water or milk to the top of the container, then dump everything into your blender. Blend. That’s it. If you’re on the go, the lids also have a hole for a straw which I think is genius.

I’m used to making the same smoothies over and over, which can get a little boring after awhile. It’s been really nice to have all the prep work done and different flavor combos to choose from. If you’re not as excited about smoothies, they also have a line of soups, sundaes, and overnight oats. What’s not to love??

    Sweet potatoes are my JAM. I like roasting them whole! Just put them in a 425 degree oven for 30 minutes and out comes candy. MAGIC. Also those smoothies have been on my radar! I might need to give them a whirl.
