Welcome to October! I know I’m not the only one who’s excited for temperatures to cool down, baking to ensue, and sweaters to make an appearance. No shame.
September marked my first full month of self-employment and it took me awhile to figure out where to focus my energies. I had to work on calming my anxiety that I wasn’t working enough and let myself take a break to take Donut to the dog park or finish my workday at 5 pm. It’s still something I’m working on, but so far it was a good first month. Here are some other things that have been going on around here:
I’ve been trying to practice my photography. It’s definitely different from my phone, which is where I normally take all my pictures. I’ve got the angles and the editing down for that, but playing around with an actual camera is taking some getting used to.
I’m still not using manual setting that often because I’ve been able to get by without them so far, but as I learn more about what my camera can do and how to use Lightroom, I’m slowly trying out some new things. I’m just happy that I’ve been using it and didn’t let it intimidate me, leaving it sitting on my bookshelf.
The beginning of September I held my Donuts with Donut event, where people could come meet her and eat donuts! I had a lot of friends who wanted to meet her or have their dogs meet her, so I figured this would be a great place for everyone to do it.
It was a great afternoon where friends and dogs alike came to hang out at the Stan’s Donuts in Lakeview. Thank you so much to them for providing the donuts and coffee for everyone!
I went to an event hosted by Simple Mills and Pilot Light, a local nonprofit that helps with food education in schools. We made pizza, learned about sprouting, and had a fun evening with friends like Addie and Erica. If you haven’t tried Simple Mills yet, you need to get on that.
I went on my writing adventure, which is covered in far more detail in this post. Since then, I’ve made time to get some more writing done on the book, which is great because I was worried that I might lose momentum after coming back.
It’s still a work in progress, but the good news is that I’m still putting in the work.
The same day I got back from Michigan City, Neil’s parents came to visit for the weekend. I was worried that it would be too hectic to go right into entertaining mode, but the trip went well and we all had a good time! They got to meet Donut for the first time which was nice. 🙂
As you can see from the picture above, I’m still wearing my boot. I went for a 5-week follow up last week and was told that I will have to wear it for the full 8 weeks because while it is healing, it’s not completely healed yet. That means I still can’t do things like run and weight-bearing lower body exercises, but my pull ups are getting pretty good. HA.
I enlisted the help of my friend’s 5 year old daughter to spice it up a little bit because you’ve got to make the best of the situation you’re in, am I right?
I had some new pictures taken by my friend Kristen and here’s a sneak peek. It’s all I have right now too since I’m waiting for them to be edited, but I’m excited to have some new content to use on the blog.
Sidenote: investing in professional pictures has been one of the best things I’ve done for this blog. I feel like it makes it look far more professional and put together than quick ones that I snap on my phone. If you’re considering it, here are some tips I have.
That’s about it for last month; there wasn’t any crazy travel aside from going to Michigan City. I hope you all had a great month and a great weekend and I’ll see you back here on Wednesday!
