Five Things Friday #167

I just realized as I scheduled this post that we are only 10 days out from Christmas. Yikes.

Every year at Thanksgiving I start thinking about it because of all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, but once those are over I forget about it until about this time again. If I don’t get my shopping done during all those sales, I’m inevitably left scrambling by the end of the month. Soooooo here we are. I will likely take this weekend to finish most of my shopping (fingers crossed) as well as running some other errands, so wish me luck! How about you?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and are happy to be wrapping up another week. If you’re still looking for gift ideas, you can see some of my favorites in this year’s gift guide. Happy Friday!

1. Biblioteque Candle by Byredo

Guys — OMG. I received this candle as a gift from a friend and I can’t stop burning it. Any kind of candle that advertises that it smells like books or a library or anything like that must be mine.

As the weather has gotten colder, I’ve started lighting more candles. Most of mine are from Bath and Body Works, but for some reason this year when I light them I have to put them out after a short time because the smell becomes overwhelming and just too much. I don’t know if it’s because our place is small or what, although we’ve been here for three years and I’ve never really had a problem.

I’ve been looking to invest in more high-quality candles (there’s another one from Anthropologie on here), and I’m afraid I’m going to turn into Jan from The Office. This candle is not cheap and it’s not something I would buy on a whim like I do with B&BW candles (to Neil’s dismay), but it makes me feel like more of an adult as we are looking into redecorating our place to a different aesthetic and feel.

There are a bunch of other scents that I’m going to go and smell and then drop some not-so-subtle hints to Neil about it for Christmas. 🙂

2. Espresso Candle at Anthropologie

I’ll just include this one now as a follow up. 🙂

The day before I got the above candle, I stopped into Anthropologie to look at their candles. I always forget how cute of a home section they have! I settled on this Espresso scent because, unlike many other coffee-scented candles I’ve gotten in the past, this actually made the room smell like a warm coffee shop.

Even though I don’t drink espresso as often as I used to and when I do, it’s decaf, I still LOVE the smell and it’s really comforting when I know it’s cold outside and I’m cozy indoors.

3. The Dark Tower by Stephen King

Ok, finally.

This is the last book in the series and I’ll finally stop posting about it after this week. I just started book seven and I’m really excited to see how the series ends. If you’re a fan of epic quests (think Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc.), then this is a good choice for you!

4. New Dining Table + Chairs

As I mentioned in the first section, Neil and I are working to redecorate our space into a different aesthetic. For years we have had heavy, dark furniture and colorful accent walls, but recently we both decided that it was time for a change.

We are planning on making some structural changes to our condo as well as replacing furniture and repainting. The first thing we got was this white table and chairs. I’m not even as excited to eat on it as I am to take photos there. HA. Our plan is to lighten everything up with a combination of white and wood and I’m really excited for it to all come together!

5. Instant Pot

So Neil and I jumped on the Instant Pot bandwagon for Black Friday, but didn’t have a chance to use it until last weekend. Since Donut’s stomach was messed up after we boarded her, we were trying to give her things that would be easy to digest. We made plain chicken and rice in here and both turned out amazingly in a matter of minutes!

We are planning on making Chinese food in it this weekend and Neil is REALLY excited. I sold both our rice cooker and crock pot since now we can do all of that in much less time with this. We got the 8 qt since the 6 was sold out, but many people I know use the 6 qt with no problems. Keep an eye on it on Amazon as it frequently goes on sale and if you have the Honey extension, you can set it to watch the price automatically and email you when it drops!

If you’re considering getting an Instant Pot or are looking for more recipes, I know both Pinch of Yum and The Lean Green Bean have a ton.

That’s it for this week guys — have a great weekend!

I want the candle too now! There’s nothing like the scent of libraries and fresh books omg. I never knew there was even a candle like this?!

I’ve been contemplating whether to jump on the Instant Pot train or not too! It sounds so convenient!

Hey Erin! I’m coming to Chicago next weekend, mostly staying in the suburbs, but we’re going to be downtown for lunch on Saturday! Any lunch recommendations that would be delicious but without a long wait??
