Five Things Friday #204

Happy Friday friends!

I’m headed back from Michigan today after a short trip to visit my friend Ashley and support a local gym where she teaches (see #5). I had to leave Donut behind, but got to adopt her pup Gilly, so all is right with the world. This weekend is a slow one, but Neil and I are going to stop by The Doughnut Project pop up in Logan Square at Longman & Eagle either Sat or Sun, so if you’re in the area, you should DEFINITELY make a trip there. There’s also a chance that we will find out the gender of the baby very soon, so that’s just about as exciting as donuts. 🙂

Here are the things I’ve been loving this week; make sure to let me know some of yours in the comments!

1. Christmas Tree

Maybe I’m in some weird nesting phase, but I had a very strong urge to put up our Christmas tree this week. I feel like I look forward to it all year and then it goes by so quickly! I wanted to put it up now so that I can enjoy it for longer and it just makes me happy, which is really what the holidays are all about.

2. Visiting Maryland

Last weekend we spent some days in Maryland visiting our families. We stayed with Neil’s family, but my mom was also able to come up and spend a day with us which was really nice. I took lots of naps, ate food, and we did some celebrations for the baby. We also played cards until the wee hours of the morning which was a lot of fun.

3. Ledo Pizza

If you’re not from MD, DC, or VA, you may not have ever had Ledo Pizza, but it is something that we get whenever we go home. It’s a square pizza cut into smaller squares and their catchphrase is that they “don’t cut corners.” We wanted it a couple weeks ago and almost drove 30 min outside the city because we thought there was one in the suburbs, but it turned out to not be part of the chain at all and I’m really glad I checked!

While the pizza is delicious, I always like to get their calzone because I am obsessed with calzones whenever I can find them.

4. Taro Frozen Yogurt

I have literally been on the hunt for taro-flavored froyo since moving to Chicago four years ago. I’ve heard whispers about its existence sometimes, but I’ve never encountered it and it’s my absolute favorite. While we were killing time at the mall in VA before going to the airport, Neil and I wandered into a froyo place that I had almost written off because it didn’t look very good. LO AND BEHOLD around the corner I found my beloved froyo flavor and it basically made my whole trip.

I’ve gotten some questions about it, and the best way I can describe it is a creamy combination of the flavor of a waffle cone and sweet cream mixed together. Taro is actually a root used in some Asian cooking and I’m quite sure tastes nothing like this in actuality, but the yogurt flavor is to die for.

5. FLEXcity Fitness

As I mentioned at the top, I made a trip to Michigan yesterday to attend an influencer event at FLEXcity Fitness in Grand Rapids. I had met the owners when they came with Ashley to Chicago for her Hello Wellness event, and it was really nice to be able to see them again and also get in a good, sweaty workout. Workouts vary each day and are a 56 minute combination of cardio, strength, and mobility. If you’re in the Grand Rapids or Lansing area, definitely give them a try!
