There are several things that I have added to my “do not buy from the store list” over the years — simply because they are easy to make at home and the markup at the store is often absurd. The first was nut butters, then recently kombucha (although I still buy one from time to time), and now ghee. Granted, it is much cheaper if you buy it from an Indian store rather than Whole Foods, but now that I’ve made it at home and know how easy it is, there’s really no need for that either. 🙂 Ok, first… View Post

This post is sponsored by Vital Proteins. All opinions are my own. Thanks so much for supporting these brands and this blog! I know that all of the holiday gluttony is usually done by this point, but I’m going to throw one more recipe out there in case you didn’t get enough. Sure, there’s a lot of butter in there, but there’s also some protein and collagen. Balance, right? My mom makes these almond butter cookies that are MAGICAL. I could eat 21354657614 of them and probably have in my lifetime. I had the idea for these while thinking about… View Post

This post was originally published in November 2013, but I’ve updated the pictures and included my partnership with NOW Foods. I make these every year for gifts and for shoving in my face and they’re a hit every time!! Today is COLD.  I hate cold. When it is cold outside, however, I go into hibernation/baking mode.  I love the contrast between the temperature outside and the warm smells inside.  My weapon of choice against the cold today was maple spiced pecans.  I have been obsessing about pecans lately ever since having that delicious salad at Panera.  I forgot how much… View Post

This post is sponsored by Vital Proteins. Thanks for helping keep this blog going! Don’t be fooled — the name of this recipe actually sounds way fancier than it is. This eggnog panna cotta takes minutes to prepare and is a perfect dessert for any occasion! This month I’m using the Beef Gelatin from Vital Proteins. The difference between this and the other collagen peptides that I’ve shared in the past is that gelatin will dissolve in hot liquids but start to gel as the liquids cool. It’s great for gut health (as is yesterday’s post), strengthening bones, and promoting hair… View Post

I drink kombucha like it’s going out of style. I’ve been buying it in the store for a couple years now and usually have one a day. When I lived in Virginia, my friend was making her own and even though she encouraged me to do it, I thought it was some kind of labor intensive hippie journey that I wasn’t ready to embark on yet. If I had taken her advice years ago I certainly would have saved a lot of money, but you’re ready when you’re ready, right? The entire recipe will be at the bottom of this… View Post
