My VIBEUP and Winter Weekend
I realized that even though I took a LOT of pictures this weekend, very few of them actually represented my weekend. I worked on some upcoming projects and posts, so the million pictures I took on Sunday don’t actually fit in for this weekend’s recap. Looks like you’ll have to get by with five 🙂
Saturday morning I headed to The Godfrey Hotel for the one year celebration of VIBEUP, a group dedicated to helping grow the community through various health and wellness events. Although they’ve been around for a year, this was actually the first time that I’d heard of them. I’m glad I went because I was able to connect with a lot of fitness friends and vendors that I’ve met since my time here in Chicago.
There were two workout options—an hour of yoga or a workout with Gideon Akande, a local Chicago trainer and instructor who won the Men’s Health Top Fitness trainer title this year. I’m sure you have no idea which workout I chose.
He took us (a group of 50+) through a well-choreographed and sweat-inducing workout, which was no easy feat given the size of the room we all had to fit into. I even got some time to hang out with my friend Emily who works with me at Sweat.
After the workout, I grabbed my lunch from local Kitchfix, said my goodbyes, and made my way home. I also made out with a free tea from David’s Tea and the always delicious Luna Bar minis (plus all the samples I ate while I was there). Neil and I ran some errands and then called it a day right before it started snowing.
Sunday morning I woke up to teach on the coldest day of the year so far. It may say 16, but I think the “feels like” temperature was actually in the negative.
I taught two PACKED partner classes at Sweat and then awkwardly posed for a group photo with some of my favorite people.

I headed home, took lots of pictures, drank lots of tea, then watched the Packers have an amazing win in their playoff game against the Redskins. I know I’m from MD, but I’m super pumped for my Packers!
After football came The Golden Globes and then bed. It was a CRAZY weekend over here.
I hope you had a great weekend and are starting off this Monday on a good note. Check back in tomorrow!
