Five Things Friday #115

Yay Friday! What’s shakin’ guys and gals?

I have another one of my favorite weekends coming up — NOTHING on the calendar. So glorious. It’s supposed to snow for around 4 days straight in Chicago, so I may end up hibernating for as long as I can. It’s getting COLD.

Let me know what you guys are up to this weekend so I can live vicariously through you. Also — if you want to, give me some baking ideas because I will probably be spending all my time between the couch and the kitchen. Such bliss.

Before we jump into the weekend, however, let’s take a look at some of my favorite things this week!

1. Whole Foods sushi

If you watch any of my IG stories, you’ll know that I have a slight problem with Whole Foods sushi. I started craving it one morning after a workout and since then I’ve been getting it close to every day.

My favorite one to eat is the one with the seaweed on the outside, then rice, then salmon. It’s quick, easy, and I can eat it with my hands while wandering around. I’ve found that the quality is better in the morning since it ages as the day goes on and I’ve gotten some at night where the rice is a little dry and it’s super cold from being there all day. Basically, eat sushi at 9 am. No judgement.

That reminds me — on one of my early morning sushi runs the cashier told me it was too early for sushi and we battled about the appropriate time to eat it until she relented and I snatched it away. YOU DO YOU. πŸ™‚

2. Lululemon Tight Stuff Tight

I’ve been in love with these leggings since they first came out, but couldn’t bring myself to spend the money onΒ them. One of my clients recently gifted me a pair of hers and they are MAGICAL. I wore them yesterday and got a ton of compliments (probably because I only wear black leggings on the reg). In terms of functionality, they were amazing. I didn’t have to pull them up, they stayed in place, and I forgot I even had them on a couple times during the workout. So good.

3. DAVID’s Tea Coffee Cake

I am overflowing with tea. I’m working through my tea advent calendar, still have the two biggest containers of my favorite flavors for morning time, and now can add this one to the rotation. I went in for something else and after smelling this coffee cake flavor about 3 times decided to take some home as well.

4. Fourth & Heart Ghee

Ok, this brand has been all over social media and I ran out of my nondescript Indian-store brand, so I picked it up (good job marketing team). There are five different flavors, but I settled on the most basic because I mainly use it to make my scrambled eggs in the morning. It’s definitely good and good quality, but at $15 a jar, I just can’t see buying it regularly.

It’s SUPER easy to make your own ghee, so since I’m now making all kinds of kombucha and nut butters at home, this is next on my list.

5. The Secret History by Donna Tartt

I’ve been obsessed with this book this week — as in I try and find time to finish it at every chance. Neil and I had gone to bed the other night and turned off the light when he realized he forgot something in the other room. As soon as he left I had turned on the light and was finishing one more page before he came back. I haven’t had a good book like this in awhile.

I’ve read all of Tartt’s other books, but apparently read them in reverse order. I started with The Goldfinch which was great, then The Little Friend which was good but had an ending I didn’t like, and finally The Secret History, which is actually her first book. Since I’m horrible at summarizing because my summaries turn into pages and pages, here is an excerpt from Amazon:

Under the influence of their charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is a world away from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of normal morality their lives are changed profoundly and forever, and they discover how hard it can be to truly live and how easy it is to kill.

I really like her writing and want her to write 2156747 more books.

And that’s all she wrote friends! Check back with you on Monday and I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

  1. Heather posted about those tights today, too. STOP ENABLING ME TO BUY LULU πŸ™‚

I brought coffee cake tea to work yesterday but forgot to make it. I’m excited to try it today.

I have a “run” (LOL) tonight. It’s below -30C with the windchilll (It doesn’t matter what that is in F because either way it’s too damn cold).

  2. I need this tea in my life! And those Lulu leggings! Phew! Love them!

This weekend is not fun– just working. But it is super cold at 14F and going to be -2F this weekend. One of my favorite things this week is my Old Navy penguin PJs. Cozy and cute!
