Five Things Friday #208

Happy Friday!

If you’ve followed along on Instagram stories the past few days, you’re probably aware that Neil and I spent most of the week in Banff, Canada. I’m including it as one of my favorite things this week, so I’ll go into more detail there, but it was GORGEOUS.

Also, I put our Christmas tree up early in November to prevent feeling like the holidays are going by so quickly, but I still feel like they’re speeding by! Once we got home from our trip I realized Christmas was less than two weeks away. HOW CAN IT BE?? Maybe I need to put the tree up in September next year…

Anyhoo, here is a look at some of my favorites from this week. Make sure to stick around til the end to get an exclusive deal on some Butcher Box bacon — you want it.

1. Trip to Banff

Banff National Park has been on my travel bucket list for some time, and once I found out I was pregnant in August, Neil and I did a quick once-over of places we wanted to go before the baby came. We were actually supposed to be on a cruise to the Bahamas right now with some of his family, but you know, ZIKA, so instead we made the decision to check Banff off the list.

I’m planning a full recap for Monday’s post, but let’s just say it was AMAZING. I was hesitant about it being winter, but I liked it so much that I think my head might explode with beauty whenever we go in warmer weather. If you can, you should definitely try and get here once in your life. Check back on Monday for more pictures and info!

2. Whole Foods Organic Chocolate Truffles

I had the chance to try some of these truffles from Whole Foods the other day and let me tell you I’m glad that I did. The consistency is so melt-in-your-mouth and it’s hard to stop at one. If you’re into sweets like me, definitely pick these up.

3. Bio-Oil

I’ve been researching recommendations for lotions/oils/potions to use on this growing belly of mine and this Bio-Oil came super highly recommended. It was pretty cheap on Amazon, so I bought some and am trying it out. So far so good, although I’ll give you a more comprehensive review once I’ve used it extensively. Right now I am trusting the thousands of Amazon reviews.

I was hesitant about it being an oil and then being slippery all day, but it absorbs well and I haven’t had a problem with it on my clothes. If you have any products that have worked well for you, let me know in the comments!

4. EliteField Soft Crate

Neil and I wanted to try out a soft crate with Donut because taking her giant metal one when we need a dogsitter was SO heavy and cumbersome. We bought this one from EliteField and she has taken to it really well! She was wary the first time I put her in it, but after that she was perfectly fine! It’s so much lighter and easier to carry so we don’t need both of us to take her and everything else to the car. You can just fold it up and carry it over your shoulder with the strap. Seriously, game changer.

5. Butcher Box

I have seen Butcher Box online and also heard great things from friends who use their subscription service. Each month, you can choose from several varieties of boxes, including a custom box in which you can specify which types of meat you want.

  • Beef is 100% grass-fed and grass-finished
  • Chicken is free-range organic
  • Pork is heritage breed
  • Animals are humanely raised and free of antibiotics and hormones

I was really impressed with the box I received and we are SET on meat now (the picture below is only part of the whole box). It’s awesome to have it come right to your door, pop it in the freezer, and take it out when you’re ready.

As a bonus for new subscribers, Butcher Box is offering $40 off PLUS free bacon using this link. If this is something you’re thinking about getting as a Christmas gift, they advise ordering before Monday, Dec. 17th. The promotion goes until 12/31, though, so you’re free to order any time up until then to take advantage! It’s a great idea for a gift or just to stock your own fridge and freezer. I don’t know about you, but I’m gonna break into these steaks this weekend. 🙂

That’s all I’ve got for this week — check back on Monday for an epic Banff review!

  1. Great tip on the soft crate! Going to look into that for our dog as we have a two seater coupe, so the metal crate wont possibly fit back there.

  2. Ooh! I live in Calgary! Excited to hear what you thought of Banff. You lucked out with the weather this week, we had so many chinooks so it was much milder than normal 🙂

  3. Your videos and pictures on Instagram were breathtaking! I can’t wait to hear more details on Monday’s post. I can’t believe how fast December is going by either! :-O Hope you have a nice weekend getting settled back in to home! I used Burts Bees belly butter and it was especially nice when I was bigger and my skin was extra dry and stretched from all the growing (like 2nd and 3rd trimester).
