Five Things Friday #218

Happy Friday!

I hope you’ve had a great week and have a good weekend planned out. I have a couple interviews to conduct this weekend for the Mental Health Summit and we also have a hospital tour for when it’s time to have the baby (!), but that’s about it.

Although I’m still going to the gym regularly, some things are getting harder to do and I’ve had to increasingly modify some movements. That also means that I’ve been trying to take it easier at home and not do too many activities because I’m getting tired more easily. Note to self: do not walk 8 hours around NYC or you may become unable to use your legs, as realized by moi this weekend.

Tomorrow I will be 33 weeks, which means I’m only 3 weeks away from full term. WHAT? I still have until 40 to go, but things are getting real. To distract myself from that, here are some of my favorites from this week. HA. I hope you have a great weekend!

1. Beautiful Boy

Towards the end of last week, I sat down and watched Beautiful Boy, an award-nominated movie starring Steve Carell and Timothee Chalamet. The movie is based on the true-life story of a family’s journey through their son’s crystal meth addiction. Both the father, David, and son, Nic, are writers and preceding the movie came memoirs written from both of their perspectives — Beautiful Boy and Tweak: Growing up on Methamphetamines.

The movie was good, but I always like to read the books as well to get a fuller picture and I went through each in two days a piece. If you know anyone suffering from addiction or are going through it yourself, both these books are great. It helps you to understand from both perspectives, and I was able to relate to each in different ways. Definitely recommend!

2. Luna Nutz Over Chocolate Bars

I’ve been eating this flavor like crazy for a couple weeks actually, but keep forgetting to include it here. I mainly eat their cookie dough flavored protein bar, but this one called to me one day in the store and I’ve been buying them by the box ever since.

3. NYC Bagel at Russ & Daughters

I went with Neil for part of his work trip last week to NYC and was recommended to go to Russ & Daughters by several people. They have a cafe and a smaller order-at-the-counter place, which is where I went.

It was the quintessential Jewish place with all kinds of delicious foods (like chocolate Babka — Seinfeld anyone??), but I was there for a basic bagel with lox and cream cheese. When I got there and realized there were about 8+ different types of lox (who knew?!), I just left it up to them to pick one for me and it was the most delicious bagel I’ve had in quite some time. You should definitely go if you’re ever in the area!

4. Enlightened Ice Cream Bars

Enlightened sent me some of the their new bar flavors this week and this one obviously made my list because one of my favorite things is a vanilla ice cream bar covered in chocolate. I had to eat one every day when I was in Greece and they’re just so delicious.

Even though I normally eat regular ice cream, several of the Enlightened flavors have been pretty good. It’s hard to go wrong with a simple flavor combo like this and I ate one immediately upon opening the box.

5. Mental Health Summit Registration Launch

This week I launched the registration for the 2019 Virtual Mental Health Summit and it’s been going so well! Even with IG and Facebook down on the day of announcing the launch, over 100 people signed up!

As a reminder, it’s FREE, and you can read all about it here on the registration page. Below is a quick look at the speakers, and you can see what they are presenting and when at the link above. Definitely join us in April — we want everyone there!

That’s it for this week – thanks for reading and see you next week!

  1. Beautiful Boy was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, I think. I had no clue that Nic Sheff had a book – def putting it on the list!
