Five Things Friday #220

Happy Friday!

I've been working hard this week to wrap everything up for the launch of the Virtual Mental Health Summit (have you registered yet?!). All the interviews are recorded, emails scheduled, pages set up, etc. I'm really excited about it and I hope that you guys have a chance to tune in (it's FREE after all). It starts next Tues, so I may just be doing some last minute tweaks here and there this weekend to make sure that things go off without a hitch.

I had my 34 week appt this week (a week late) and am going for my 36 week one next week, so things are getting real! Next week we get our final ultrasound to make sure baby is in the right position and everything is good to go in case I go into labor, so that will be nice because we haven't seen him since the 20 week one. My carpal tunnel symptoms are still hanging around and it's been a real laugh trying to type this out when I can't always feel the keyboard. Good thing for muscle memory. 🙂

Here are some of the things I've been loving this week; I hope you enjoy!

1. New Glasses

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that a couple weeks ago I left the room for a second and when I came back, Donut had destroyed my reading glasses. They were my one and only pair (apparently I'm supposed to have a back up?) and I knew that the frames had been discontinued, so I was really upset.

I made an appointment immediately at SEE because one of my clients is an optometrist and that's where I got my previous pair, and although it was really hard for me to let go of my old pair, I did find a new one that I liked. The shape is basically the same and I was terrified of the colors, but I've actually been pretty happy with them!

They're really only for close up/reading, so it's not like I was blind for a prolonged period of time, but it did make marathon reading and working at a computer a little more difficult. Thankfully, ALL IS WELL.

2. Waterproof mattress protector

Now that we are getting to the end of this pregnancy (!!), I suddenly became paranoid about my water breaking in bed or that putting the baby on the bed would lead to all kinds of bodily fluid leakage, so I quickly ordered this waterproof mattress protector to assuage those fears.

I was worried that a mattress protector meant that it would be a weird plastic crinkly thing, but this is actually terrycloth and has no plastic crinkle whatsoever. It's one of the reasons we never got one in the first place and I just didn't realize that covers had come so far in that area.

We can't even notice it and it also hasn't made sleeping any hotter, which is something that I was warned may happen by a few people. Definitely advise if you're in the market for one!

3. Neutrogena sunless tanner

I primarily use sunless tanning sprays on my face because if I were to try and do my whole body it would be a colossal mistake. During the winter when my skin becomes translucent, I will do a quick spray on my face after getting out of the shower and it just helps me look like I have a little more color.

I've used the L'oreal brand for years, but when I went to buy more and they were sold out, I got this Neutrogena one. I think the color is more subtle with this one, so for me to get the same effect I just have to spray a little more. I do like the mist quality and the smell of the Neutrogena one better, so I'm still deciding which one I would get when this one runs out.

P.S. I just realized they're also much cheaper on Amazon than the Walgreens where I picked this up.

4. Cloth hair ties

My friend Maria was wearing one of these the other day and when I asked her about it, she gave me one and told me that they're supposed to be easier on your hair and make it less prone to kinking when you take it out.

For those of you keeping track, I don't do my hair every day and will typically wear it down one day, then not wash it for maybe two days after that. The problem is that on the first day of not washing, it's usually hard for me to wear it down again because I work out in the mornings and that will typically lead my hair to have a kink in it from wearing it up.

I've tried this kind for a couple days and while I was skeptical at first of its ability to stay tight, it's been really effective and doesn't leave a deep line in my hair unless I sleep with it in. Here's a set of 100 you can get and I'm also intrigued by these ones as well - anyone tried?

5. Grid flower pot cover

Donut has developed a wonderful habit of eating dirt from this pot in our bedroom and then trailing it all over the carpet. Some days she ignores it completely and others she can not be kept away, which makes it hard to leave her alone in there.

We bought this flower pot cover off Amazon and so far it has kept her out of the plant! She still goes to sniff it and once tried to lift it up, but because there are spikes that go into the dirt, she wasn't able to. This part won't matter as much for awhile, but they're also good for inquisitive babies and keeping them out of the dirt.

It came in a set of two so we may use the other one for another plant she likes to sniff or just save it for later. Overall, a quick and cheap solution to me having to vacuum the floor over and over. 🙂

That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
