Five Things Friday #221

Happy Friday!

This week has been magical. The summit went live, we had our 36 week ultrasound appointment (no dilation or anything yet), and I got a prenatal massage last night after the summit wrapped. MAGIC.

We did learn that upon further review that the baby's heart looked a little enlarged, which means that I'm scheduled for a more specified ultrasound next week. The doctor didn't sound like it was a huge deal, but they just want to double check to be sure. I'll keep you guys updated!

Aside from that, nothing big to report on this end. Here's a look at what I've been loving this week!

1. New RX Bar Flavors

I had the opportunity to try out some of the new RX Bar flavors this week, which include lemon, chocolate cherry, and banana chocolate walnut. I had actually sampled them some months ago when I went to an event at their headquarters here in Chicago, but they were still in development and we were only given samples and told to guess what the flavors were.

My favorite so far is chocolate cherry because I love both of those flavors. I'd have to be in a specific mood to opt for the lemon and banana chocolate walnut is a good morning choice for me (minus the walnuts because I'm a weirdo who doesn't like nuts in my food).

Currently I believe they are only sold on their website, but keep an eye out for them in stores as time goes on!

2. Permanent Midnight by Jerry Stahl

As you've probably caught on by now, I'm in a serious spiral of consuming addiction and recovery memoirs as quickly as I can. This week's completion was Permanent Midnight, which was also adapted into a movie of the same name starring Ben Stiller (don't mind the photo; Donut wanted to get into it too).

I'm torn on this book. On one hand, it paints a very vivid picture of addiction, but on the other, I'm just not sure if I really loved the writing style that much. Stahl is a Hollywood screenwriter, which made me think it might be written in the more journalistic way that I prefer, but some parts are really over the top and I found myself a little confused of the timeline in parts.

It probably doesn't help that by the time the book ends, he hasn't cleaned up his life much, which makes me think that much of the book was written while he was using and therefore a little scattered. If you want a raw depiction of drug use and its inevitable consequences, however, this is a great book for you.

3. Maya Kaimal Simmer Sauces

Last month I shared about how I was doing some work with the brand Maya Kaimal and how blown away I was by their dals which heat in the microwave in 90 seconds and are ready to eat. They are delicious and I really need to stock up on some more.

This month, I tried out their simmer sauces and was equally as impressed. We don't make Indian food much at home just because I feel like it can be time consuming and, well, I'm lazy. I tried out both their butter chicken (my fave) and tikka masala sauces and they both got Neil's approval as well.

Now all I have to do is cook some chicken and rice, cover with sauce, and add in some veggies. Seriously a game changer.

4. HIIT Dough

I tried some samples of HIIT Dough this week -- a healthier cookie dough option that is:

  • Gluten Free
  • Vegan
  • Soy Free
  • Dairy/Egg Free
  • High Fiber
  • Plant Based Protein
  • Preservative Free

I liked all the flavors except the brownie batter, which tasted a little artificial to me, but the others were good! They're sweetened with stevia which may be why I reacted that way to the one flavor, but I'd definitely give them a shot!

5. Wrapping up the Mental Health Summit

This week the Mental Health Summit went live!

We had almost 450 people sign up which was amazing. Everything went off without a hitch and I got some great feedback from those who watched sessions. I'm so happy to have been able to bring these conversations to so many and I'm hoping that I can continue to do so in the future.

I'm bundling everything up into a course that you will be able to purchase and watch/learn at your leisure, so if that's something you're interested in, let me know and I can get you details! Thank you to everyone who participated!

That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
