Five Things Friday #225

Welcome to the end of the week 🙂

If you read my post from Wednesday, you know that I have been stocking up on all sorts of content for these Friday posts. The good thing about buying more stuff is that I don't find myself scrounging around and trying to make sure I have enough things for Five Things Friday. Hey, always look for the positive side, huh? 🙂

The weather has been sloooowly warming up here and I've been taking full advantage. Since I'm not back to exercising the way I want quite yet, I'm building back to it by taking long walks in the sunshine with Miles. This way I can get my vitamin D and both a mental and physical breath of fresh air. It's been really nice. I've even been sort of listening to some podcasts despite trying for YEARS to get into them. That and books on tape -- I just can't. Anyone else?

So here's a look at some of my recent shopping purchases -- let me know some of your faves in the comments!

1. Frozen kefir

I've been a big fan of Lifeway for a couple years (you may remember my obsession with farmer cheese) and now that the weather is warming up, I've been finding myself getting frozen kefir at their store a LOT. It's tart, tangy, and better for you than regular frozen yogurt (which is also delicious). The great thing about the stores is that flavors rotate daily and I've always been able to find one that I like.

Sidenote: I'm very sad that you can't buy frozen yogurt in stores like you can ice cream. I'd be all over that.

2. e.l.f. cosmetics

I've actually bought e.l.f. cosmetics for years in the form of their clear mascara which I use to keep my eyebrows in check. It started off as $1, but since has gone to $2 and I think maybe actually a little higher now, but that's definitely a price I can spend vs. overpriced brow gels that do the same thing.

When I went to buy a foundation brush for the foundation from last week and realized it was more expensive than the foundation itself ($48!), I said no thank you and promptly went to Target for a $4 version. They have tons of styles and the quality is great. I also bought this $3 brush shampoo because I have NEVER cleaned my brushes and it was well past time to do so. If you haven't, it's a very satisfying experience -- especially if you wait 10+ years to do so.

3. Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops

I grabbed these at Sephora this week after hearing about them from a friend. Rather than buy a tanning-specific lotion that leaves you with that characteristic tanner smell, you simply add these drops to whatever lotion you currently use.

There are three levels of drops: light, medium, and dark and from there you can further customize the level of tan based on how many drops you choose to use with each application. I've only been using it a couple days, but I definitely notice a difference and plan to keep trying them out. I also had a bunch of people on Instagram let me know that they love them as well so that's a plus!

Note #1: Add the drops to the lotion in your hand, not an entire lotion bottle as I previously thought and couldn't figure out how it would mix. Duh.

Note #2: As with any self-tanner, always make sure to wash your hands or use gloves afterwards!

4. Nitro Cold Brew + Sweet Cream

In my buying frenzy, I've been spending an absurd amount of money on the nitro cold brew with sweet cream at Starbucks. While delicious, I know that it's a phase that won't last forever because I tend to go a little overboard when I find something I like and then burn myself out on it. Until then, I'm enjoying them on the regular.

Pro tip: I have gotten a couple that just taste like they have plain cream in them, which to me is not worth almost $6. I asked a barista who explained that they are supposed to put 4 pumps of vanilla, then nitro, then cream. If yours only tastes like cream, they likely forgot the vanilla so make sure to check with them. Now when I order I say "that's with the vanilla right?" so they remember. Ha.

5. New ear cuff

Again with the random purchases, but I saw an ear cuff on a friend the other week and decided I must have one. I have nine ear piercings and didn't really feel like getting another one, but realized that this is just a cuff that I can wear on my ear (it's the one in the middle of my ear). I searched online and found one for $10 on Etsy and was SOLD.

It shipped really quickly and looks so good. You can see a better picture in the listing here. Since I put it on I've slept, showered, and exercised in it and it's stayed put. I definitely recommend if you're in the market for ear cuffs -- because who isn't? 🙂

That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I’m not sure I’ve ever tried frozen kefir, but it sounds delicious! I love sweet-tart flavors. I need to wash my blush brushes asap. O_o I’m a hot coffee gal throughout the year but also crave iced or cold brew during the summer. I’ll be going by one of our local coffee shops later for their current spritz: fresh grapefruit syrup, signature espresso, and Fevertree tonic. =D I have six ear piercings, but I love the idea of adding a cuff! I may invest soon. Thank you for sharing!
