Five Things Friday #236
My sister got here yesterday to spend a couple days with us (but mostly Miles). Today is the first full day we will have, so hopefully the weather holds up and we can do some fun things outside. If not, he's still fun to play with inside. 🙂
This week has been good and I wanted to take a minute to let those of you in Chicago know that next week I will be speaking on a panel hosted by Athleta and Evolve Her. You can read more details here, but it's free and Miles will be there, so those are really the most important things. To wrap it up this week, here are some of the things that I've been loving!
1. Hungry by Nature Granola Butter
I've shared my friend Ellie's granola on here before (and if you're in Chicago, you can now find it in Whole Foods!), but recently I had the opportunity to try her granola butter and it is AMAZING. She is currently working on logistics to be able to sell it online, but if you're local you can find her at various farmer's markets with it. If you're on Instagram, the easiest way to find out how to get some is to DM her!
If you're not local, you should still try out her granola, which she created after being diagnosed with celiac disease. All three flavors are grain-free and produced in a gluten-free facility, so if you have issues with gluten (or even not), order some today!!
2. Olive Leaf & Lemon Candle
I stopped into Anthropologie on Wednesday and saw they were having a sale on these Illume brand candles. This olive leaf & lemon scent was perfect and I was looking for a new candle to go by my bed. Let's be honest, though -- I'm always looking for new candles to cover every inch of my home. It's a scent that is a good balance between summer and fall -- not too fruity and not too warm and fall-inspired. I'm definitely burning this one for awhile!
3. Microfiber Towels
I feel like a real adult when new towels make this list.
Neil ordered some new microfiber towels and while I don't really pay attention to the towels we use, these are actually much better than the plain ones we had before. They're thin, but very absorbent, and I was amazed at how quickly I dried off after my shower. They also dry very fast, which is something I appreciate because I felt like the old ones would take forever and then end up smelling musty before I washed them.
If you're in the market for new towels, definitively recommend. 🙂
4. Shatterproof 5K
I shared last Friday that Neil and I were running a 5K to help support the fight against addiction. We ran it on Saturday and thanks to all of you wonderful people, we collectively raised over $2500!!
I was happy because I haven't run any real distance in a long time and even though I work out, running is an entirely different type of workout. I didn't have to stop at all which I was really proud of and Neil kicked butt by finishing well before me in his first ever race.
Thank you all for the outpouring of support and for all of your donations. You make all the difference.
5. A Boy Like You by Frank Murphy
One of my readers sent this book to Miles and I LOVE IT. It's exactly what I want to teach him as he grows up -- that it's ok to be himself and not feel trapped in male stereotypes if that's not who he is. It's ok if he doesn't like sports and it's ok to cry and be emotional. There's a lot about simply being a good person and looking out for others around you who may be having a tough time.
Basically, if you have a boy, you need this book. It's so sweet and just helps them understand that it's ok to be exactly who they are.
That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
