Five Things Friday #248
Today marks the end of a very productive week for me -- I finished up my postpartum corrective exercise specialization (more on that below), finished a course on baby-led weaning because my preference is to do a combo of that and purees with Miles, and just got a lot of Christmas things out of the way and general life things that have been sitting around forever (like donating a bunch of clothes to various places). I still have a bunch of errands to run today, but it's nice to be able to have things to do rather than being cooped up in the house all day, despite it being my preferred way to live.
What things have you done this week? I'd love to hear about them below. Before that, though, make sure to check out all the awesome things I've loved this week. 🙂

1. Tiny, Salty, Chocolaty Cookies
When our friend Katy came to visit us over Thanksgiving, she shared this recipe from Alison Roman's new cookbook. We made them and I loved that they were so easy and quick to whip up (also delicious). The only two dry ingredients are cocoa powder and powdered sugar, which was also a change for me in terms of baking ingredients, but they turned out so delicious that I made them again over the weekend to take to a belated Friendsgiving.
2. Branch Basics
I was sent a starter kit from Branch Basics more than a month ago and I wanted to take the time to use it before sharing if I liked it or not. What's cool about the cleaners is that they are all made from the same "concentrate," and the ratios of it to water simply differ.
I made their detergent and have been using it for over a month and I have no complaints. I just mixed up some of the all-purpose cleaner last night to clean the counters since Miles has been eating off them and I wanted to try something with fewer ingredients. There's no odor, but you can add a few drops of essential oils if you're looking for any kind of scent (maybe not to the laundry detergent). Overall, I really like them so far and the spray nozzles on the bottles are AMAZING. This is what excites me now. 🙂
If you're interested in trying them out, you can use this link to order which will give you $10 off (I will also get $10).
3. Colorful Carrot Coins from Trader Joe's
I can't believe that I used to not like Trader Joe's many moons ago. Now it's a place that I frequent at least once, maybe twice a week. You guys know I'm a big fan of quick meals, so I love all the options they have in their frozen section for veggies and mix-ins. Most recently, I bought these carrots which already came seasoned and ready to go. You can make them on the stove or in the microwave and then just toss in with whatever else you're eating!
4. Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist Certification
You may remember me sharing about this certification a couple months ago, and I'm here to report that I just finished it up this week. I took a bit of a break and realized that I needed to actually schedule time to get it done because "finish course" was just a vague bullet on my to-do list that I would always skip over in favor of quicker things.
I'm not currently training clients, but I got this certification for a couple reasons:
1. Knowledge. It's crazy to me how little is discussed about postpartum exercise when that is the most important part and the time when you can do the most damage.
2. Credentialing. I like to have credentials to back up any information I may write or speak about, so this made me feel able to share more with you about exercise before, during, and after pregnancy.
3. Recertification. I need a certain number of continuing education credits to renew my personal training certification every two years. This takes care of all of them.
I'm really excited about finishing and hopefully helping other women as they return to exercise post-baby.
5. Trader Joe's Riced Cauliflower Stir Fry
You saw that I've been having more frozen cauliflower as a base for some of my meals and that it's so much better than refrigerated cauliflower. I saw this at Trader Joe's this week and grabbed it because it has a bunch of veggies already thrown in as well. I'm telling you, anything that is cost effective and helpful in me eating vegetables (which I'm terrible about) is a win.
That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
