Five Things Friday #266
First of all, in case you missed it, I revealed the sex of the baby earlier this week! You can find out in this post. Exciting times!
In other news, we are still working on settling in here. Most of the furtniture we ordered has come and now it's smaller decorations and things. I'm still waiting on the dresser for Miles' room, which is the last big piece in there and I can finally get all his clothes organized. The kitchen and bathroom remodeling won't be until September, so being in either of those rooms still feels a little transitory to me.
I'm also trying to figure out a routine here with Miles. I can't really take him hiking because it would need to be in the afternoon when it's the hottest and he's not really able to regulate his body temperature yet and overheats pretty quickly. Then with the pandemic, there obviously aren't a lot of organized things going on indoors, so we've basically been hanging out at home most days. I was able to take him to Lake Jordan yesterday, though, which was a real highlight of my week. You can see what else I've been loving below. 🙂

1. Invisible Bookshelves
My sister told me about these and when I looked them up, I knew I needed to have them immediately. They're small shelves that hold up your books so that they look like they're floating on the wall. A page or two is inserted into part of the shelf on the bottom, which helps hide the shelf entirely.
I'm still planning on adding a book or two to the top shelf and maybe playing around with different candles/plants, but so far I'm loving them. I only put two up, but the brand I ordered comes with four so I can put the other two somewhere as well.
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw that all I really wanted for my birthday was uninterrupted powerwashing time. After borrowing one from Neil's cousin, there seemed to be some kind of issue with it and it kept shutting off. Rather than trying to dismantle a machine I had no idea how to repair, Neil grabbed one that his parents had a couple days later and it worked!
I've only done the front and back of the gate of our fence, but you can already see the difference between the two parts. You're supposed to reseal it after letting it dry for 48 hours, so I'm waiting to do more of the fence until I actually pick up some sealant. I'M SO HAPPY ABOUT IT.
3. Rhuli Gel
I haven't used this stuff since I was a kid and I almost forgot about it...until I moved back into the woods.
For YEARS the bugs have left me alone and have focused all their blood-sucking efforts on Neil, but now the tables have turned. I've been covered in bug bites -- somehow even through the leggings that I've been wearing.
While it's satisfying to scratch them, it's obviously not productive, so whenever I feel a new one, I put some of this on it and the itching pretty much goes away. I was really surprsied and it's been my saving grace during this humid summer.
4. Bagels and Cream Cheese
I'm chalking this up to my increased love of carbs during pregnancy, but I've really been craving plain bagels with plain cream cheese on them in the morning (or afternoon, or night...). They're just so satisfying and I'm so happy they're in my life right now. I may even go grab some strawberry cream cheese soon...
5. Fresh Peach Ice Cream
I didn't actually take a picture of the ice cream, but here's one from our trip to get some yesterday. Growing up, my family would pick fruit at an orchard that would also make fresh ice cream from whatever was in season. My favorite was always the peach ice cream and I haven't had it in SO SO LONG. Any peach ice cream made without fresh peaches always tastes gross and artificial to me.
I joined a local mom's group on Facebook and it's been great for getting recommendations. I remembered my love for fresh fruit ice cream Wednesday night, so I posed the question asking if anywhere around here did that. I now have a list of at least four places to try out and I can't be more excited -- especially given that it's now peach season.
It was a really special moment for me to take Miles and share with him something that brought me so much joy as a kid. I'm hoping we can do more things like this as he gets older. 🙂
That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
