Five Things Friday #275
We've been at the beach now for a week and it's been so nice (it's one of my favorites below). We leave here Monday morning to head back to Neil's cousins while our renovations finish up. We spoke to the contractor a couple times and it looks like things will be done sooner rather than later and we may be able to be back in the house by the end of next week or the beginning of the following. I'm excited to see how everything turns out and then do final decorations since it won't feel like we have a transitory kitchen/bath/etc. I'll be sure to keep you updated!
I've had a lot of ups and downs over the past couple weeks, but I've felt pretty good on this trip. I'm making sure to get enough sleep and also asking Neil for help when I feel like I need it. A couple days after we get back I am going in for my updated ultrasound to see if my placenta has moved at all, so I'm obviously interested in that outcome. Either way, I know I'll have a baby at the end of it, so I'm not trying to get too upset if things don't go as planned. Time well tell. I hope you all are doing well and finding ways to take care of yourself during these times. As always, feel free to email me or DM me on Instagram if you ever need to talk. Lots of love. 🙂
Spending this week at the beach has been a really nice break from things. Neil took time off from work, so it's felt like we are all here enjoying ourselves and doing things as a family. It's been really nice.
We usually take pretty short trips, but this one we booked for 10 days. Since the weather has been a mix of cooler and warmer days, it's helped things not feel monotonous. On cooler, overcast days, we go hiking or spend time inside and since there were only two very sunny, hot days, we spent those at the beach.
Miles seems to be learning at an exponential speed. Just this week, his communication skills seem to have improved and he's started repeating tons of stuff he hears us say. He's also walking a lot more and did a lot of the hike I took him on during the week. His personality is so funny and I love watching him experience these new things in a new environment.
All in all, it's been really relaxing and I'm glad we made the trip. 🙂
Random, but since I spent so much time saying "man I love puzzles" out loud while we were working on this one at the beach, I figured it should probably be included. This puzzle was here at the house we rented and I loved working on it with Neil. We just had it on the dining room table and would work on it sporadically throughout the day. Thankfully, Miles isn't quite tall enough to reach up and grab the pieces, so it was nice and safe. I will gladly accept all the puzzles.
3. Hot & sour soup
I've shared about this a couple times on Instagram, but I've had a serious craving for hot & sour soup during this pregnancy. It's something that I hadn't had in over a decade, but suddenly began craving it and now I have it at least every couple weeks. It's so good - especially when the temperatures start to drop and I'm sure I will be ordering it more once it's colder.
4. Ice cream
Add this to the other weird craving category. Not that ice cream cravings are weird, but they ARE weird for me. I'm very rarely in the mood for ice cream and will maybe eat it every couple months. Suddenly, it's something I'm thinking about more and more and we've eaten it almost every single day on this trip. This picture is vanilla ice cream with Butterfinger pieces swirled in, which was my all time favorite McFlurry flavor until they got rid of it.
I've also just been drawn to basic flavors or I've really had a thing for moose tracks lately. I ordered it the other night while we were here (we couldn't go inside and had to order from an employee outside) and for some reason their moose tracks had a chocolate ice cream base which I was not happy about. I'm NOT a fan of chocolate ice cream and was confused about the whole experience.
Anyway, those are my two paragraphs about ice cream. 🙂
5. Song Exploder on Netflix
I thought this was going to be a series about how music is made in general, but the show focuses on one particular song by a particular artist and talks about how that song came to be. There are only four episodes and they're short - 30 min - but the two I've watched so far were really fun. I watched the one with REM/"Losing My Religion" and Lin Manuel Miranda/"Wait For It" and recommend both of them. It's very cool to get some insight on different creative processes.
That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
