Five Things Friday #280

Happy Friday!

How are things? Today is really dark and especially rainy here in North Carolina, but living among all the trees still makes it soothing and beautiful to look out the windows. I had my weekly maternal fetal medicine checkup earlier this week and this time I met with the OB who will be performing my surgery in less than three weeks. I really like her a lot and I feel like this whole team of people is really invested in the best possible outcome for me and baby which is really comforting. There isn't anything particularly new to report, we just talked more about logistics for the actual surgery and I got more details about what would happen on the day of. After that meeting, I had a non-stress test where they hook a monitor to my stomach and monitor the baby's heartbeat and any potential contractions to make sure everything is on track. It is. 🙂 I like getting more information about what will happen in the days and weeks ahead, but it's never really exciting to go to these appointments, you know? And although they don't make me very emotional, I do think that they just drain my energy and I often find myself taking a nap on the days that they happen.

Miles is still doing well with daycare and I think that starting in December we may increase him from two to three times a week. He gets more stimulation there and it will likely help with my own recovery once I'm back home. I'll keep you updated! We have three more weekends until baby comes, so we will be staying close to home and just trying to soak up the way things are right now before life changes again. I hope you guys have the best weekend and are hanging in there. Lots of love to you. 🙂

1. Dress for baby sprinkle

Ok first of all, I shared this picture on Instagram and got a lot of comments about not knowing what a sprinkle was, so let's clear that up. It's essentially a baby shower, but for any baby after number one. You don't really need as much stuff as you do for a first child, so instead of a shower, it's called a sprinkle.

Secondly, I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a dress I probably wouldn't wear a ton. I searched on Amazon and really liked the look of this Mother Bee maternity dress -- plus it was under $40. It's REALLY soft and comes in a ton of colors and patterns for you to choose from. A lot of the reviews said to size up because it can be pretty tight, so I ordered both a M and L to try on. The M actually fit a little better and wasn't so long, so I stuck with that one. It's simple enough to be worn every day if you're a dress person and nice enough to be dressed up for a shower (or sprinkle 🙂 ).

2. Christmas Decorations

I usually start itching to decorate for Christmas sometime before Thanksgiving, but given this entire year, I started at the beginning of November and have no regrets. Thanksgiving is fine, but Christmas is such a joyful time for me and I wanted to start getting in the spirit to stretch it out as long as possible.

Right now, I've only decorated the mantle, but definitely plan on getting a tree sometime before December (and finally a real one!) and scattering some other little holiday decorations throughout the house. Is anyone else decorating early?

3. aerie OFFLINE Goals High Waisted Leggings

When aerie first starting making workout leggings, they were all the rage because they were supposed to be good quality and were about half the price of big brands like Lululemon. People compared them to the Align leggings from Lulu, which I wore throughout my whole pregnancy with Miles, so eventually I decided to buy some and see.

I really wasn't that big of a fan. I didn't think they were anything like the Align leggings and were actually much thinner. I also felt like the high waist kept rolling down throughout the day, which was really annoying.

Once I got pregnant again, however, I liked them more because I felt like they stretched enough to accommodate my growing stomach and also the waistband started to stay up once my stomach was there to hold it in place. I bought another pair recently because I got a bunch of paint on my other ones, and I've been wearing them pretty consistently.

There are a lot of different variations of these leggings, but the ones I'm including in this post are linked here and are much more stretchy. I made the mistake of buying the OG leggings because they were cheaper, but I couldn't even get them on because they were thicker and definitely NOT as stretchy.

4. Renovations are DONE!

Our renovations are finally done! They were already for the most part, but we had people sporadically in and out to finish up some last minute and touch up things for the past couple weeks. Things feel so different -- especially our master bathroom -- and we love everything that we've had done.

In case you missed it, there's a post about our kitchen renovations and one coming next week about everything else (including this bathroom). The renovation of our gym shed should be up sometime in December so keep an eye out for that too!

5. Euphoria on HBO

I know I'm late to the game on this one, but Neil and I just finished the first season of Euphoria this week and it is SO GOOD. From the website:

An American adaptation of the Israeli show of the same name, "Euphoria" follows the troubled life of 17-year-old Rue, a drug addict fresh from rehab with no plans to stay clean. Circling in Rue's orbit are Jules, a transgender girl searching for where she belongs; Nate, a jock whose anger issues mask sexual insecurities; Chris, a football star who finds the adjustment from high school to college harder than expected; Cassie, whose sexual history continues to dog her; and Kat, a body-conscious teen exploring her sexuality. As the classmates struggle to make sense of their futures, the series tackles the teenage landscape of substance-enhanced parties and anxiety-ridden day-to-day life with empathy and candor.

The show is only 8 episodes, so it's quick, but man they are intense. It affected me a lot because I could relate to so much -- the emotions, the behaviors, and obviously the drug use. It can be uncomfortable at times to watch, but it was done so well and I can't wait for another season.

That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Looking oh so gorgeous & glowing in that pic with your new dress!! Also, I have to give a plug for Euphoria as well. It’s definitely gritty & raw, but pulled me right in. Keeping you in my prayers, my friend. XO
