Five Things Friday #282
If you're in the U.S., I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. I know the holiday probably wasn't your typical one, whether because you were apart from family or decided to keep things low key, but however you decided to celebrate, I hope you enjoyed the day. My mom and sister both got their negative COVID test results and drove down from MD yesterday, so we will be having our Thanksgiving today. My brother and his girlfriend were also supposed to come, but we all made the decision to postpone since they would be coming from Seattle and we didn't want to risk the cross-country air travel. Hopefully we can see them soon! Mom and sis will be here through next weekend to help out with all the fun baby adventures that await, so it'll be nice to spend some extended time with them and have them be with Miles since my mom hasn't seen him since he was a month old and my sister only a couple months after that!
Speaking of new baby adventures, delivery is scheduled for next Wednesday. I have a couple appointments before then for steroid shots to help baby's lungs develop, my own COVID test, blood work, and a final meeting with my OB to go over any last minute questions and things. I can guarantee that there won't be a Friday post next week because I'll still be in the hospital, but if you want baby updates, make sure to follow me on Instagram where there will be plenty of stories along the way. 🙂 It's both an exciting and a stressful time, and honestly I'm pretty ready to just get it over with at this point. STAY TUNED!
Thank you all for your love and support this year (and every year). I couldn't do it without you. 🙂
1. "Let Them Be Little" sign from Etsy
I saw this phrase when I was wasting time on Etsy and fell in love with it immediately. It's something that I want for my children and it also inspired this post on Instagram. I loved the font and the simplicity and ordered it for Miles' room.
There are a bunch of other wood-cut sayings and you can order them in a variety of colors, but I wanted this simple, unfinished wood one for his wall. It arrived on time and I have no complaints. Love it!
2. Baby gown from Wallaby Kids
I realized last week that I didn't have many clothes for the baby when she comes home, so I bought a couple things in a panic. Honestly, she will likely be in the NICU for awhile and there are still Miles' newborn clothes that I'm going to sort through this weekend, but I also wanted a couple things that were just hers.
I went to my favorite kids thrift shop in the area, but there was so much pink that I got overwhelmed and left. Nothing against pink, but it's not one of my favorite colors. I scrolled through Amazon to see what neutral options they had and I came across a company called Wallaby Kids. The reviews were great and I knew I wanted to get one of these gowns for pictures, so I chose this burnt orange color and I LOVE IT. They're made out of bamboo and super soft, so I know it'll be great when she's home and can wear it. If you're looking for baby gowns for yourself or anyone else, I really like these ones, the colors are vibrant, and they don't cost an arm and a leg.
3. Trader Joe's Chocolate Passport
I think this is a seasonal item since I've never seen it before, but I grabbed it as a gift for Neil (then accidentally left it on the counter and he found it) and it's really good.
We always like trying different chocolates (mainly dark) from different countries, so I thought this was perfect. We have had some the past couple nights and they do not disappoint. It's a great idea for a stocking stuffer or something small to gift to another chocolate lover. 🙂
4. Real Christmas tree
Growing up, we always had a real Christmas tree, but after I moved in with Neil, we decided to get an artificial one and used the same one for nine years. It definitely made sense when we were in Chicago, but now that we are in North Carolina and more immersed in nature with our own house, I knew I wanted to go back to my roots.
We preordered and picked out our tree on Wednesday, then set it up in the living room. I still have to put lights on it and I forgot that we threw out our tree skirt when we moved, but right now I'm just so happy to see (and smell!) Christmas whenever I'm nearby. Fingers crossed we can keep it alive for a month. 🙂
5. Monogrammed stockings at Target
Apparently this week's post revolves around kid things and Christmas, so I'm hoping you can at least find one thing that catches your eye.
A couple weeks ago, I was in Target and saw these stockings. They are actually much nicer than the picture makes them look -- they're thick, sturdy, soft, and on these striped ones the letter is actually a little additional pocket. I didn't buy initially because I balked at them being $15 a pop, but then I kept thinking about them and how our family doesn't really have stockings (especially for the kids).
Neil finally got tired of me talking about them and told me to order them (ha). I got two striped ones for the kids, and then solid red ones for me, Neil, and Donut (they make one with a paw print instead of a letter). I figure that if we plan to use them for years to come, they're worth the investment. I ordered them this week and they should be here next week. I'm super excited!!
That's all for this week friends! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
