Oh She Glows Cookbook Review

Happy warm Tuesday! I love it. You know what else I love? This cookbook:

I can’t tell you how long I’ve waited for this cookbook.  Well I can. It’s been months.  Months and months.  I got into a passive aggressive spat with Amazon about it. I bought it as a gift. I may even do a giveaway of it (more than likely).

I started reading Angela’s blog shortly before starting my own.  She was one of the people who inspired me to tell my story and start on this blogging adventure.  Ninety nine percent of the recipes I have made on this blog have come from her and she is an invaluable resource for learning how to make delicious and SIMPLE vegan and gluten-free (if necessary) foods. There isn’t one thing that I’ve made from her recipes that has turned out poorly.  I’ve had people tell me that her trail mix cookies are the best cookies they have ever had.

I hesitate to buy cookbooks because they seem so great in essence, but rarely live up to the hype.  In most cookbooks I find a few things that I would make and disregard the rest, which makes them a poor investment.  I like finding recipes online because they are a fluid thing; you don’t find a static collection of recipes and have to choose.

This is the first cookbook where I could realistically see myself making EVERYTHING at least once.  Even all the desserts I could make, which is rare (and oh my are these desserts to die for).  The book is split into your common breakfasts/sides/entrees/desserts/etc, but what I also like is there is an entire section for salads, smoothies, and basic staples to have on hand for other recipes or just to devour (salad dressings to nut milks/butters).  The beginning of the book also tells you what ingredients are best for stocking your pantry and contain details about each one. I love reading about ingredients, so if that floats your boat then this book is for you!

Another thing I really like about all of Angela’s recipes (book and blog) is that they are simple.  It is easy to find complicated recipes that end up overwhelming to me (because I’m lazy), but all of these recipes contain the minimal number of ingredients needed to turn out fantastic.  I never look at a recipe and think that I don’t have time to make it.  The photography is beautiful and so is the food.

I am so glad to have this book at my disposal as well as her blog as a resource.  She is an inspiration to me and many others and this is a fantastic achievement! I’m sure you will see more pictures of food from this book in the future and if you haven’t checked out Oh She Glows, you’d better!

Question of the day: How do you feel about cookbooks? What’s your favorite?

I’m so happy to hear that this cookbook is living up to it’s hype and Angela’s usual amazing-ness! Her’s was one of the first blogs I ever read too, and I love how simple and approachable she is – in not only her writing, but her cooking too! I’m definitely going to have to add this cookbook to my collection!!
