WIAW: California Edition

Hello and happy Wednesday!

I have a food filled post for you today.  One of the things that I love about visiting family in California is the amazing selection of foods.  Farmer’s market foods, snack foods, homemade foods (since we barely make real meals at home), you name it I get it there.  There may be more than your normal amount of pictures in this post, but I get very excited about new foods.  I may have a problem.

Breakfasts

Obligatory smoothie shot.  I received some samples of this Hemp PRO protein powder at Expo East, but I can’t say I am a huge fan.  I usually prefer chocolate flavored powders, but the vanilla one in this brand tasted better (to me).  Mixed with almond milk, it tasted like ice cream.  I picked up some other protein samples while in CA and made this later in the week with chocolate egg white protein which was much better.

I also had my normal scrambled eggs and mushrooms, but made sure to try some cinnamon roll waffles on Sunday.  Simply take cinnamon roll dough in the tube and put it in a waffle maker. Voila!

Lunches

After Pure Barre on Friday we grabbed lunch at Tender Greens, a new to me restaurant with made to order salads.  I got the salad in the raw and added salt and pepper chicken for some post workout protein.  It was one of the biggest salads I have ever eaten.

Sunday after our workout at Active Nation Day, we stopped by the farmer’s market.  This is no VA farmer’s market; there are donkey rides, live music, and numerous food stands that give you actual meals like this breakfast burrito.  It’s incredible.

Thursday after we were picked up from the airport, we stopped for lunch at an Indian buffet.  I got some more plates after this one and made sure to load up on lots of pineapple. It was some of the best I’ve had in awhile.

Dinners

Ok. Be prepared for some pictures. Apparently I forgot to take a picture of anything but these gorgeous peppers on Thursday night.  We had Mexican which consisted of grilled steak burritos.

Friday night we had homemade grilled pizzas.  We had all sorts of options but of course I loaded up mine with pesto, mushrooms, and more basil on top.

Saturday we went to Nikita in Malibu since it is my niece’s name and obviously she owns it.  We ordered a bunch of different things to share around the table.  The kale and quinoa salad was delicious, but so was everything. I even went crazy on some pizza because it had pesto and chicken.  Cheese is so delicious so I will eat it when it is covered with amazing things.

I tried to camp out and find a celebrity, but all I saw were expensive cars. Boo.

Sunday night we had homemade sushi.  Where am I? I could definitely get used to this.  We even had some miso soup and a grand finale of unagi–my favorite!  Notice everyone’s hands trying to creep into the picture because it was all so good. I had to swat them like flies for my picture and then it was inhaled.

So those are my delicious CA eats.  Back to my microwave sweet potato and eggs for lunch today.  I’m so fancy.

    Ah, I can’t take it. So much good food in one post 🙂 Your actually the first person I’ve seen who turned cinnamon buns into waffles. Such a great idea.
