FitBloggin Recap: Part 2

Happy Thursday! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Let’s dive into the final recap of my epic trip to Savannah for FitBloggin.  If you missed the first part, check it out here.


We woke up again at 530 am to attend yoga.  It felt great to be able to stretch out after the intense boot camp and subsequent crossfit class the day before.  I’m not sure that I needed to do it at 6 am, but I did it nonetheless.

After yoga was breakfast and then workout number two of the day: PiYo + Insanity.  I love Insanity workouts because they kill me.  It is hard for me to find an at-home workout that I find THAT challenging.  I usually end up gasping for air and cursing the television.  I was also excited to try out PiYo, which as you may be able to tell by its name is a blend of Pilates and Yoga.  It gets my heart rate up more than either individually, so I really liked it.  I need to get some more of that in my life.

20140703-103158-37918293.jpgI ran from the workout to the Walgreens mobile wellness center because they were doing free health screenings.  I also wanted to go because they informed me the day before that I WON A FITBIT. Oh snap. I haven’t even worn it yet because I want to read everything about it like the nerd that I am and haven’t had a chance.  Once I know everything there is to know about it I will share it with you.


So back to Walgreens, they took blood samples and did a panel of cholesterol, lipids, and all sorts of health things.  I love medical data so I was all about it.  All my values came back normal and they even told me that I have the body of a 24 year old despite my turning 30 this month.  TIGHT.


20140703-103157-37917855.jpgAfter my morning sweat session and prize acquisition, it was time for workshops.  Before I did that though, I creeped on Monica from RunEatRepeat and made her take a picture with me. It was amazing. She was very welcoming and didn’t seem to have a problem with my sweat drenched clothing.  ‘Atta girl.

20140703-103222-37942952.jpgThe first workshop I got to was about affiliate marketing and how to pitch to different brands. There was a lot of information that I haven’t even had time to go through yet.

We had a longer break for lunch, so we headed to Kayak Kafe and I ate all the salad as I mentioned yesterday.

After that I headed to Katy’s presentation on media kits which was really helpful and overwhelming at the same time.  Basically I need to get working on my media kit so that I can start moving forward in this big bad blog world.  She’s amazing.

I checked out some more workshops on the legalities of blogging and got more information on monetizing my blog.  The rooms were SO COLD that we were forced to huddle under a tablecloth with each other to keep warm.  At least we didn’t have to crawl inside a Tauntaun.

Side note: This sleeping bag is AMAZING.



Side side note: In researching an image, I also found SCIENTIFIC PROOF that Luke would have died in the Tauntaun’s belly. Now you know.

Anyway, it was cold.


Before we had our closing event, Arian Foster showed up to help promote Health Warrior’s awesome chia bars.  I ate these all weekend and they are the perfect pre run snack in the morning when I need some energy but don’t want to eat anything heavy.  You HAVE to try these out.


That night closed with desserts and an expert blogging panel where we could get answers to any questions we may have.  After the panel, we strolled the streets of Savannah and went in all the candy stores.  The warm praline samples were amazing.  So were all these things:



There was a race the next morning, so we all turned in pretty early.


Sunday morning there were a couple distance options for our final run: 1 mile, 5K, or 10K. I wanted to try the 10K because my knee had been feeling better and I wanted to push it a little further to test it out.  I didn’t have my expert PT there to tape me, but I seemed to manage pretty well on my own:


Before our run we got to take pictures with Jeff Galloway, an Olympian and famous running coach.  His run-walk method is pretty intriguing, so if you are interested in more info, check him out here.




My friend Stephanie and I ran together and it was actually pretty fun.  I don’t normally run with anyone else because I use it as more of a meditative time, but this way I think we were both able to pace ourselves as we talked along the route.  If you’ve never done it, it’s a great way to catch up or get to know someone.

One thing I did not like about this was running over the bridge.  Cool, but not cool.




So to catch our breath, we took pictures next to signs.


Once I finished, I showered a got on the road.  I randomly stopped at the South Carolina State Farmer’s Market which had weird places that you drive through.  I think maybe it is busier at other times.



I bought some peaches but was saddened when I got home and realized they were white peaches. Ain’t no body got time for that.


I had a great drive back and laid out all my swag when I got home.


It was such an incredible weekend and I am so glad that I went.  Thanks to Roni and everyone who helped make it possible!!

  1. First of all! I love your leg-day tee 🙂 Fitbloggin was truly amazing. Congrats on your Walgreens results. I still got a lot of work to do. White peaches. Don’t have a fitbit… Yet, but soon.

  2. YAYYYYY For FitBloggin (I feel like I say that with every recap!) I had so much fun hanging out with you and getting our run on! It was such a great weekend, and I feel like I’m STILL reeling from all that info!

    Also, I didn’t really know that white peaches and… peach?… peaches tasted any different. Do they?

    1. To me white peaches don’t have as much flavor and are too light and watery tasting. They’re still nice and refreshing but they don’t give me a flavor explosion in my mouth!

  3. Sounds like you had such a fun time!! It sounds like a wonderful experience 🙂 I’d probably be more at the candy shop than anything else 😛 What was your favorite exercise-experience you’d say? I don’t think I can run a 5K to save my life – I tried running but my knees give out and I get so dizzy when starting it’s a pain. Could be mental weakness but there’s that 😛 Have a great one Erin! -Iva
